I plan on changing the oil myself when I hit 800-1000 miles. I was going to go Mobil 1 but I know Ford won't be putting full synthetic when I bring it in for the free changes. Should I use what they're going to use for my 800-1000 change, get my first freebie at 5k then switch?

Also:
-Is the stock drain plug magnetic? If not where can I get one?
-Any oil filters to stay away from aside from Fram?

(1) I'd get the free one for sure. Then change to Mobile 1 if you like.

(2) Sorry, I don't know about the plug.

(C) I've always stuck with the Motorcraft oil filter. That way there's no warranty questions if something happens.

Ask the dealership if they can prorate the price if you upgrade to full synthetic. The free oil change they are giving you is probably valued at $50-70, so for $20 more you can probably talk them into synthetic. Keep in mind it's 8 quarts so that price may be more than you're used to in the past.

edit: 2018's are 10 quarts (for anyone finding this thread at a later time)

Do you own a '18? Those are 10 quart capacity pans with a plastic quarter-turn drain plug (no magnet, that's what your filter is for). Take advantage of the dealer doing it.

Yes, I have an 18- good to know.

--Yes, this was a dealer add on not from Ford.

*Anyone know what oil Ford uses at the dealership, M.C.?

Mine uses Motorcraft. It wouldn't hurt to ask your dealer before the change though.
