I when thru the same doubt... my conclusion; the '18 is really more expensive than a '17 because several factors; one model year, more tech/equip, 10 speed, dual mass, magne ride, Direct inj +port inj, more options on packages, more power, active exhaust, really an improved mustang after 3 years of the 6G.
That why my '18 will cost me close to $12k more than my '16.
But.....I will not have to spend as much in aftermarket parts! ( I wish)

Live in Australia and the 2017 is in stock and massively discounted at $56k drive away for a GT Auto Coupe. The 2018 comes out in 3 months and for the same car is $72k drive away.

So the question is, is the 2018 worth the premium and the wait?

For those who have had both how different do they feel?
I am also in West Aus and in the same dilemma. The cheapest new 2017 PP (we only get the PP version) A/T GT I have found is 57K drive away. My dealer reckoned the 2018 was going to be around the 70k mark.

If I lived in the USA I would hands down get the 18 but here in the land of oz the difference and end cost makes it a much harder decision.

Seriously thinking of just going the 2017 GT. I already got the BMR kit. I reckon we would be lucky to see the 2018 this year.

AUD is 77 cents to USD

but if I had the 2016 or 2017 GT, I wouldnt be upgrading. Instead, I will take the money and put a supercharger on the V8 and blow the doors off of many exotics :)
That's what I did. Bought a barely used '15 PP GT (6k mi) and already had a supercharger installed (plus exhaust, lowered...etc) and cost me less than an brand new PP '17 GT.

But even with the supercharger, you won't be blowing the doors off exotics from a stoplight especially ones with AWD. Traction is a huge issue once you get boosted. From a roll, it's pretty awesome though.

I test drove three 301A GT’s this weekend: a ‘17 PP1 M6 (NMRC), a ‘18 PP1 M6 (MRC) and a ‘18 NPP1 A10 (NMRC).

The A10 is REALY fun to drive. I could get into trouble playing with that transmission. The only [regular] auto Ive driven that I like the same is the ZF A8 in Dodge’s. But this A10 is a whole ‘nother level!

17-18 PP1 comparison: The power between the engines is noticeable. Not hugely, but it is. More significant is the extra 500 RPM, actually. The MT82 is sooo much better in the 18 vs the 17. The 17 feels like garbage driving back to back. And I don’t hate the MT82. I had them in my S197’s and actually liked them outside their “weak” feeling. This new MT82 feels more like a good Tremec. I actually drove my 16 Camaro SS that day and, outside the shorter shifting of the MT82, I felt almost seamlessly at home. Ford did good here!

The 18 interior had some nice, subtle material upgrades compared to the 17. Most notably the steering wheel and the dash.

I prefer the sight out of the front of the 18 over the 17.

Mostly, the same car from 17-18 inside.

I agree with MotorTrend: the MRC on the PP1 is crap. I’d rather get a NMRC car and add some nice Bilsteins. The Camaro MRC is calibrated way better (standard and 1LE). Hell, I preferred the 17 NMRC PP1 car, stock, over the 18 MRC car...

It’s to my understanding that there are new ways to underrate the motor even with the current SAE rules. Things that can be argued are for fuel savings, such as variable valve timing, can be turned off (afaik, in the case of the Infiniti Red Sport, this was actually confirmed. The official rating is 400hp, but the dynos come back with 374whp consistently). The manual transmission 18 is coming back at 437 according to American Muscle, and that’s on the same dyno that they put the gen1 S550 on, which had a normal ~18% drivetrain loss.
My local dyno had an 18 auto at 390 and manual at 410rwhp SAE respectively. Dyno’s can vary, some are way happy, so are grumpy. In the end, the motor is what it is, not over or underrated. Only thing that matters is what you run at the track and high 11’s @118-119 is exceelnt for a stock car. Afterall, we dont race dyno’s.

Absolutely agree about traction. I have a NA motor and from a dig its easy to spin the rear wheels. I imagine being supercharged. you need 305's in the rear with some sticky rubber to get out of the dig without turning your tires into smoke. However, from a roll a 650WHP Mustang is nothing to sneeze at. I know because a 16 GT (Whippled) wiped the floor with a C6 Z06 in front of me.

What gear did they have it in? I've seen lower numbers like that, and it's always because it's been in the wrong gear. The auto needs to be in 7th where it rev limits due to the speed limiter. The 417-ish on the 10-speed and 437-ish on the manual have been consistent, from multiple people using different dynos.
Again, American Muscle was using the same exact dyno they used for the Gen1 S550, where it had a normal drivetrain loss.

I have the 17 GT with a lund tune and my cousin has the 18 GT with 10 speed. I've driven both, not only does the 17 get way more attention but with the tune it is quicker as well. The 18 stock for stock is a bit quicker but not enough to warrant price.

My cousins best run in his 18 GT is 4.9 (auto, 10 speed) and mine with the lund and super sportsbook is 4.6. Without the lund and on super sports I did it in 4.9 as well.

Either your 17 has a trick up its sleeve or your cousins 18 is not behaving.

Sounds odd that a 17, with less tq and hp and slower box would run the same time as the 18 under normal conditions.

Not sure about them AU 18s the EU ones get 60NM less than the US spec and some 14-15hp less which could even the odds for the none US 18s and that sucks. 60NM is a rather huge loss.

Look on the bright side. If you ever decide to get a tune for it, you’ll get a bigger boost then our US friends

Mate, you should be able to get a 2017 for ~$52k with 5years warranty courtesy of Ford's promo to offload them :)

I have a 2015 auto GT. I recently drove a 2018 GT auto a few blocks to gas it up for a customer. The 18 seemed to hunt for gears a lot. At one point under light to moderate throttle it downshifted with a hard bang. Combined with the much louder stock exhaust it would be totally unacceptable as a daily driver, for me. I wanted to hug my 15 on the drive home.
