I've had this rattle coming from somewhere in the right rear since day 1. Ford "tried" for a week and couldn't fix it. Since I couldn't really identify where it was actually coming from, I took the nuclear option and just padded everything. Result: total silence!!! :clap2:
Pic1: I used thin, sticky-backed felt from Michael's craft store.
Pic2: This tether, and the entire black plastic piece that the rear curtain airbag lies in were rattling pretty bad. I could not figure out how to properly remove the tether from the frame, and since I was hoping not to die today, i just took some thin strips of felt and worked them behind the top and bottom edges of the tether to quiet it, then cut off the excess with a scissors. I also took some wider strips and stuffed them down along the top of the frame where it meets the body.
Pic3: This block of foam has three mounting points, two of which had been broken (probably when Ford was looking for the rattle). I wasn't sure if it would rattle (it is definitely a little squeaky), and I didn't want to try to find a replacement, so I figured I'd try lashing it down with some duct tape.
Pic4: Long, thin strips of felt where this trim piece contacts the window. It looks ugly here -- I straightened it later. In the front, you can see how I padded the metal clips.
Pic5: I laid this strip of felt on the body, because the edge that contacts it is made up if a series of edges, and it likely wouldn't stick well. You can see the edge I mean toward the rear of Pic4. I also put little strips down in likely contact areas, but I didn't take pics.
Pics 6&7: I padded every clip except the round plastic ones.
