Some more KC attractions if you're a history buff:
Harry S Truman Library and Home in Independence, Mo. Just a stones throw from Kansas City. Truman lived there after his presidency until his death. The Library covers allot of history from the bomb to Korea and the cold war. You'll learn allot about the man and the politics of the time.
If you feel like driving you can visit the Eisenhower Presidential Library and museums in Abilene Kansas (about 130 miles west of KC). I like the Truman library better but it was still interesting place to visit. The museum and library were built next to the home he grew up in.
It is interesting to see how two men from very humble beginnings became President.
In Hutchinson Kansas (200 miles southwest of KC) you can visit the Kansas Cosmosphere. A really impressive space museum with more Soviet space artifacts than the Smithsonian. Plus they have the Apollo 13 capsule! Even my wife, who is not a history buff, thought it was cool http://cosmo.org/
For Motorsports:
The Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed - Lincoln Nebraska. This place is AWESOME. An amazing mixture of old and current open wheel racecars from all over the Midwest and Indy. Highlights for me were the experimental Ford engines that were rescued from the dumpster - how about a OHC small block Ford!? https://www.museumofamericanspeed.com/ Lincoln is an easy drive from Kansas City and has cool downtown area. Grab a pizza and beer at Yia Yia's.
May 5-6 the Kansas City Region of the SCCA is holding an Autocross Novice School and Autocross Saturday and Sunday. Free to watch and cheap to participate - perhaps you should rent a Mustang! We have allot of S550 and S197 Mustangs that enter these events. www.motorsportreg.com
May 12 at the Kansas Speedway - Monster Energy NASCAR 400. Merica!

In all seriousness the Speedway is a fantastic racing facility and it happens to be located near the Legends shopping district.
