When I crank my manual Eco-boost before it starts it rattles from engine compartment. No it not from the motor rotating mass, sounds more like light sheet metal. Never cranked another Eco-boost. Mustang is brand new and did it at dealership so assumed it was trait of car. What is that sound?

Take it to the dealer and have them look. It sounds like a loose heat shield or something of that nature.

Check:

1) turbo housing shield cover
2) the mounting point where the exhaust down pipe mounts to or near the transmission; some EB Owners have reported that the mount breaks free from the exhaust.
3) exhaust resonator shield
4) loose e-brake cable assembly; this is a well known issue. The assembly is between the driver side trans tunnel and exhaust. When it gets loose, it sags and will rap against either the trans tunnel (floor pan) or exhaust. There is a thread on here how to adjust.

Those areas would be the most susceptible for such rattles.
