What's the best torque route - Power Pack 2 or 2018 intake swap?

Haven't been able to find a clear answer to this question. I am thinking down the road about a minor power increase on the level of the PP2 kit. Not interested in the PP3 simply because I'm not interested in turning 7500 rpm with my engine. My engine is stock in terms of power adders, there are none, just stuff for longevity such as oil control and cooling. Most of the tracks I frequent are technical and tend to need more torque than horsepower. I'm also just tracking the car for fun, not serious competition.

So the question is, given that I rarely, if ever, exceed 6500 rpm and need good torque to get off slower corners more than horsepower, will the PP2 kit or a 2018 intake swap be the better route?

With the 2018 intake, does it need a tune to get the added power/torque out of it, or does it make more power than the stock '16 manifold with the stock tune that would already be in my '16?

In terms of cost it appears the 2018 manifold is half the price of PP2 so that's a bargain if it makes power/torque comparable to PP2, but cost is not a huge issue here.

Any insight on experiences in this respect greatly appreciated.

if you want a torque monster down low the F150 intake is the answer. The '18 will give more horsepower up top but less torque. I just went from the f150 to the '18. Down low its no comparison as the f150 is strong but winding her out the '18 will pull ahead. Good luck.

Stick with the stock mani or F150 mani for what you want.

Not really looking for stump pulling torque a la the F150 manifold, I just would like to keep or maybe better what the stock '16 manifold delivers from 4,000 up. PP2 bumps torque to 378 peak @ 4200 rpm vs 347 peak @ 3900 for stock, wondered where the '18 manifold is compared to that?

Why not just tune for e85? That’ll give you more bottom/mid range than any of the stuff you’re talking about..

2018 manifold is 8-10 ft lbs more in TQ than the GT350 manifold. Falls off around 7300rpm vs 7500rpm on the GT350 manifold. 2018 also makes slightly more 3-5 HP over GT350 manifold.

Not sure why this is even a question given your needs.

1) the PP2 has massive torque gains over an 18 GT manifold under the curve

2) the 18 GT manifold only shines above 6500rpm

Given you rarely if ever rev over 6500, this is a no brainer. Remember that you will still need a tune with the new manifold, so in the end the cost of doing both will be just about the same.

Because were I live there is no such thing as E85. We get gas laced with ethanol at about 10%. That's it. Unless I want to buy racing gas at $20 a gallon, which I don't since the nearest place that carries racing gas to me is well over 100 miles away. Pump gas is it, 94 octane with ethanol in it or 93 octane from Shell with no ethanol in it. That's it.

That's exactly what I was wondering about. I could not find any kind of comparison between the 18 manifold and the PP2 that was done on any kind of equal terms. So PP2 it is.

Thanks all for the input, much appreciated.

Ontario? In Manitoba shell is limited to 91. My car loves Husky 94. Shell not so much.

Yes, Ontario. Actually, it is Esso Mobil stations that have 93 Octane not Shell. We just had an independent station rebranded as Mobil and they have 93, not sure yet if it's ethanol free or not. Shell's 91 is rumored on the interwebs to be ethanol free but the pump says otherwise so who knows? The 94 is Petro Canada but it contains ethanol according to the pump. I just really dislike ethanol in gas mostly because I've seen what the moisture it picks up can do to fuel system components, but it's pretty much impossible to get away from it these days.
