Hi all,

Summer must be here, my Mustang is out!!

So, this year I will be putting new wheels and tyres and the Pedders on her. Not too sure to stay with 19" or go to 20" but am pretty sure I want a square set up, probably 10 or 10.5 wide with 295 rubber.

There must be a million threads out there covering this subject, but I would like someone to please point me in the direction of a thread they KNOW is right. I'll probably buy Work wheels so i'll need to buy them blind.. no trial and error here!!

I want the arches to be as full as is legally possible :headbang::headbang:

On a 10 inch ET35 front and ET40 rear. I'd never put a 295 on the front though, that will steer like crap.

I’m surprised you say this Eric? The US guys seem to think the square set up is the way to go? I ran a square set up on my GT86 and loved it. Less power but same basic design?

yeah but square 275 is probably the cap, anything more is just disgusting to steer with. I run 275 square.

I run 285/35-19 on the front, on a 10” wide wheel and the steering is fine:)

Many people in the US are convinced that being able to rotate your tires is the ultimate holy grail of car maintanance.

Of course you can run square, but the car is not 100% set up for it. Rear 2 sizes wider than front, that's what Ford tuned the GT electronics for (stock 255 front/275 rear). On the EcoBoost it's square (stock 255 round).

Personally I wouldn't run a 295 up front on any car, but it's a free world

Thanks Manders. What are your wheel specs please.
Note that Steve has an Ecoboost.

I am only considering the square set up because it seems the Americans go this way for optimum performance, not so I can rotate tyres.

its 285 for the square setup
it is if you keep the rear tyres the same size ;)!

I was advised when I had mine to not go above 275 on the fronts due to the steering feel being vastly reduced.

My wheel specs are:

19x10 | ET40 | 275/40/19 MPSS rubbers

Goes against what I was told; however, if that's the case, then fkit - that's good :D!

There’s a video on YouTube where what’s his name with the beard drives a blue GT through the canyons and he comments how wonderful it steers on a 295/30 square set up?

The series of videos is called The smoking tire.

I think the best solution is to test if you can and find out. I believe in very very simple terms square overall handles better than staggered for track, or road racing, staggered suits drag racing, or road driving where wet roads come into play (large front tyres it's a bit more noticeably skippy in the wet)

Check out Centurion07 's rear end (matron) for the best arch filling combo I've seen. The front is nearly as good.
