Beware. The 2018 GT’s plastic oil pan/plug allows the oil to drain fast. The oil jetted out about 14” from the back of the pan. Surprised the hell out of me.

Cheers,

its a plastic oil pan and plug now? I remember seeing this on the golf GTI's and everyone was up in arms about it lol

It probably cools better, and to be honest, ive hit a rock with a aluminum oil pan and put a baseball sized hole in one and completely lost everything. Just surprised to see this on an american car is all

Yeah I found out the hard way on my first oil change. I have the enclosed 15 quart plastic oil pan that you can find everywhere and the drain plug on the mustang is 3 times bigger than the drain on the top of that oil pan. Created a huge mess for me because it couldnt drain it down fast enough and the top overflowed. Gonna have to cut a hole in the top or something.

Does the 2018 5.0 use the same filter as the gen 2 5.0? Walmart only showed up to 2017 on their wizard machine.
Rockauto lists the Motorcraft FL500S as the correct filter for the 2017 and the 2018 Coyote.

The owners manual also calls for the FL500S. I used the Ford Racing M-6731-FL820 HD and it worked also.

OP, what is the size of the drain plug? I have to change the oil on my 2018 GT tomorrow and would like to have the proper tools ready.

Thanks.

It’s the same plastic plug as the GT350. I had to use a large crescent wrench to remove it. Maybe the o-ring was not lubed at the factory. The old oil lubed the o-ring on its way out. So, I was able to tighten it by hand.

lol my drain pan couldnt keep up with the flow it almost spilled over
I changed the oil on the GT this weekend and this thing pees like a race horse!!!:D

I have a pan that holds 11 quarts, I need a bigger one now since this was not enough to keep the oil from splashing and spilling out!

As a side note, the drain plug did not require any tools, it just twists off using my fingers and the one of my car was not hard to take off.

I put in 10 qts of Pennzoil Ultra 5w-20 w/ Motorcraft FL500s filter and the oil dipstick shows the oil level between the two holes on the stick. That's normal i assume or I need to add more?

What I did when I changed mine is loosen the plug, and partially pull it out, but not remove it totally. It will take a little longer to drain, but you can control the flow and keep your garage floor clean.
