Help Wanted - Fix your P160A DTC!

I'm going to assist the FORScan devs in testing a new feature in FORScan - a procedure to reinitialize the PCM so it will relearn vehicle data like the tire size and axle ratio. Once this is done, you can clear the P160A DTC and it doesn't come back assuming the procedure works on your car.

I've tested it and it works on my 2017 GT w/6spd manual.

What we need is to test it on every year, engine, and trans combo out there. So here's what we need:

 • 2015 EB Auto
 • 2015 EB Manual
 • 2015 V6 Auto
 • 2015 V6 Manual
 • 2015 GT Auto
 • 2015 GT Manual - being checked by SiMuL
 • 2015 GT350
 • 2016 EB Auto
 • 2016 EB Manual
 • 2016 V6 Auto
 • 2016 V6 Manual - being checked by soldier989
 • 2016 GT Auto
 • 2016 GT Manual
 • 2016 GT350 - verified by mkonrad
 • 2017 EB Auto
 • 2017 EB Manual
 • 2017 V6 Auto
 • 2017 V6 Manual
 • 2017 GT Auto
 • 2017 GT Manual - verified by Spart
 • 2017 GT350 - verified by guzie

If you have a tune,
you must flash back to factory before doing this.

If you have one of these cars and would like to give it a shot, please PM me with your car for instructions. Hopefully with your assistance, this feature can make it out of the testing stage and will be made publicly available.

2016 GT Manual here. What would we need to have to participate or would the tool be provided?

Recently switched to 295/35-19 and speedo is off about 2 MPH.

You'd just be helping test out a future version of software that's already free to download.

I use and recommend the ODBLink MX Bluetooth with a Bluetooth-capable Windows laptop.

For more about FORScan,
see this thread.

I just ran through the motions on my 2016 Manual V6 and the relearn didnt remove the DTC. I tried it a couple times, same result. I'd be interested to see if any other V6s can clear the DTC with a relearn.

Have you tried the new publicly available 2.3.12?

I've got a '17 V6 and I wouldn't mind helping out. I've already made some FORScan changes. My question is this:

Car started life with OEM 235/55/17. I switched to 18" GT wheels with 235/50/18. Speedometer reading is dead on according to GPS?

NOTE: I also switched from 3.15 gears to 3.55. I checked the speedometer AFTER the gear change. I am assuming here that the readout from the ABS sensor (tire rotation) is able to compensate for the negligible difference between 3.15 and 3.55 gears.

I just made the FORScan change to 3.55 gears (and double honk with engine running / FOB out of car) and I have not GPS verified the speedometer since. (Made the FORScan changes last night). I'll check the speedometer against GPS today.

I "assume" if I do make the needed change for tire diameter in FORScan it's "supposed" to throw a DTC?

Changing the tire diameter should result in a DTC, and possibly the axle ratio as well. Not sure on that one. Send me a PM and I can walk you through what you need to do to banish the DTC.

Does anyone know if using this to change tire size is working now and not causing other issues? Anyone near Maryland that has done this? Any simpler ways to do this, like get a calibration tool or can dealerships adjust it?

Yes, it's working. That's why I'm having people test out a new feature in FORScan that eliminates the P160A DTC. If you want to try it, send me a PM and I'll shoot you the instructions.

Some calibration tools can do it, but I don't know that it would be any simpler.

Dealers can't do it, their software is basically setup to only flash canned values rather than custom ones, and you generally need a custom value to correct your speedo error.

I'm guessing this is only an issue when changing to much larger tire diameter than OEM. My '17 V6 came with 235/55/17. I swapped to GT 18" wheels and 235/50/18. Speedometer was checked via GPS after install and it was dead on accurate.

Switched from 3.15 gears to 3.55 gears. Checked the speedo with GPS - again, dead on accurate. From everything I can find out - in regards to the gear change in the rear end - the ABS wheel / speed sensor has a big enough range that smaller changes in gearing (3.15 to 3.55 in my case) are within the margin of error and changes will be picked up without issue.

Also since I have a 6 speed manual, shift points aren't an issue.

I changed to 3.55 via FORScan, and the speedometer registers the exact same - verified with GPS - so in my case, changing the tire diameter via FORScan seems unnecessary.
