Honestly there's not much he can do about that with a drag radial. They'll fold over beyond 6 tenths.
Well the NT01 road course tire is the same compound as the NT05R. So I don't see the dif other then tread depth/design. But anyways I already bought new wheels, so I'm not gonna fork out for another set lol. I'll prolly end up going 275/285 cause of the different width wheels. :cheers:

The inside sidewall is, I've been told, slightly less stiff (but still stiff) which ultimately helps with camber and tire wear on a car with an appropriate track alignment. There are other construction differences, too. They are apples and oranges.


The NT05R is a soft sidewall, quick to heat up drag tire capable of being driven on the street. It is not designed to turn.

What Wildcat said. You'll want to run RE71Rs for autocross, and they also do quite well in HPDE. If doing just road course work, NT01 are quite grippy and durable, but the treadwear rating will not do you good for autocross. That said, neither are a particularly good daily tire. They're loud, stiff and not very good in the rain.

With thte NT01 rated at 100 and the RE71R rated at 200, why do you say the NT01 is not good for autocross? I'm not trying to contradict, just trying to learn. I'm not clear on the best tire selection parameters for autocross vs HPDE vs road racing.

Firstly, it'll put you in a very difficult class because it's not 200TW. Second, it's not designed to heat up very quickly like the RE71R, so you won't get the best out of it on short runs that autocross is. Conversely, the RE71R will get hot and lose grip after a few hard laps on track, because of this. The NT01 is a very durable tire that is also very fast, but it needs heat in it. Sure it'll still be grippy for autocross but you won't be able to to reach its maximum performance. You can access all of the RE71R's performance there, though.

First thing - what class are you targeting ? You're out of F Street anyway, so get wider wheels if you're trying to fit wider tires on them rather than get narrower tires.

And as other said - the tires you have are not even remotely close to being good autocross tires. Once you are out of Street class, fit widest wheel/tire combo you can fit on the car within the mods you're comfortable with to achieve it (can be none, can be rolling fenders and cutting body).

I think I'll give the ECSTA PS91 a shot.
As someone who has a squared 275/40 PS91 setup, allow me to put in my .02.

The PS91 looks good on the surface but the sad truth is that it's inferior to the stock Pirelli Pzero setup that came on my Performance Pack car. I have 9000 miles on mine. As this is my first RWD car I've been sliding the tail out like an ass-hat and I have 5 32nd of tread left. So on that side, they're fantastic because it cost me $800 for a set of four tires and I've got 9000 miles of sliding stupidity out of them. However for ultimate grip and over-all performance it isn't as good as the PZero.

For reference I'm running a Steeda 93 calibration with their CAI and an X-Pipe, so not a huge amount of power.

I'm tempted to see if the 305/30zr19 size is better, as I'm planning on swapping to a 10.5in wide wheel soon. So on one hand I want the Conti ES and on the other hand I just want to slide like an idiot all the time. :D

As the title states, that's what I have. It bulges a little. I thought not enough to adversely affect the cars handling at our local 1.6 mile autocross. However, I definitely noticed the sidewall trying its damndest to fold over on itself (32psi cold pressure). Got kinda outta hand on the harder turns. Next set of rears will be 285/35r19's. Should be a better fit for the 19x10 wheels correct? :cheers:
