I am running the same setup as ICON! Nice sound at an inexpensive price.

I've kept the standard mufflers on mine and replaced the resonator with a custom H pipe - gives it a nice old school burble which is slightly louder if you give it but not drastically louder (from what I can recall when I first did it).

I'm now also running a K&N intake as well, so it kinda screams it's head off when you give it, but the resonator delete with just either a H or X pipe won't be overly loud.

I've also contemplated a muffler delete (with a Pype bomb set up) but haven't gotten around to it yet, but yeah, it would be LOUD - depends what you're after.

Thanks for all the input guys... I think I will go down the path of putting a stainless steel system on and leave it at that... I would love to save the dollars by cutting the old system up but deep down I know I want to go fill SS system. Also the other thing is being a vert makes funding a system hard.

here is what the guts of the resonator looks like, 3 chambers, double skin stainless filled with glass fibre.

I have a question for those with X/H pipes. Could I expect some additional ground clearance by removing the resonator and installing an aftermarket pipe? I have driveway issues with the stock resonator...

Yeah you would get the body of the resonator, 10 to 15 mm. The centre lines remain unchanged.

Where did you guys get the Pype bomb axle back from? Anyone know of an aus seller or has a set for sale?

Looks like it's pretty much straight through and no step down in diameter thankfully. Was set to replace mine with a Magnaflow Tru-X res from CJ Pony but don't think I'll bother now unless the Roush ABs I'm putting on are too quiet.

So I have decided to cut the resonator out and straight pipe it and see how that sounds and if im not happy with it, I will just get a cat back system by borla or Roush...

Tony fwiw I was going to do the same but found a youtube clip with that set up, didn't knock my socks off tbh. The one I saw was louder but not inspiring if that makes sense.

Yeah I understand what your saying... what if I keep the standard mufflers and remove just the resonator... how would that sound?

Each to their own with respect to sound but according to this it creates significant raspiness which not everyone likes.

Beware of vids that show the car free revving standing still, unless this is what you actually do it tells you nothing

It sounds good and not loud loud... I think that's a good starting pointing.
