It's just extra taxation.

There is a city close to where I live that had a prosecutor who went out of his way to create a speed trap on the dual lane that ran through his city. Once he was gone the police can't even be found anywhere near there anyone.

Three items to note here. 1. They added a S650 to their stable (see https://www.fordmuscle.com/news/virginia-state-police-brings-the-heat-with-s650-mustang-patrol-car/). 2. They use moving radar. 3. Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia.
Bottom line: use extra caution when trying to transit "quickly" in or through Virginia.
It's impossible to speed in VA😂 not because of the police.but because

-Toyota Corrolas clogging every lane. Including the shoulder

-VA roads are garbage

-VA has a stop light fetish

-dump trucks. So many dump trucks.

Honestly if I can do 5 above I feel lucky😂

What's the real point here tho? You can catch most speeders in a 4-cyl Camry, and they can't outrun a radio anyway. Is this just so the po-po can have their toys at tax payer expense?
You must have never been on the job.

I dont even think about speeding in VA. +5 over the speed limit. Thats It!!!
unless it's between 0430 and 0550 on I-66 east bound on a weekday. Then we blitz by the staties at 75-80+ in a 65, then 55 zone. And no lights flash.

I generally don't commute till after 0930 (in the opposite direction) but when I leave the datacenter in the wee hours of the morning, the aggression on display is mind-boggling. Just where the HELL are you idiots going in such a damn hurry that you tailgate mercilessly, cut and thrust thru moderately heavy traffic?

JBV1 app in standalone mode is a pretty solid. Saved me a few times.

I use an R3 detector in VA. I'm less worried about state, and more worried about Fairfax PD during their shark program.

Between the R3 and JBV1 with waze overlay. It's about a decent countermeasure without spending a fortune.

Ahh, Occoquan bridge of RT123 south. I got a +20 on that bridge by the town police chief a few years back. because he radar'd me at 55 in what dropped to a 35 at the mid-span. And the signage was WAAAAY off to the right and trivial to miss.

There were 20 of us in court for that hearing all for the SAME sh*t and we muttered LOUDLY to the black robe about the lack of properly sized/visible signage. Guess what, about a month later they put a BIG-ass sign in the middle divider, and another large warning sign at the top of the long hill warning of the speed change. I think the Prince William County commissioner said "enough of your sh*t" and VDOT also weighed in. But it went on for years.

Though going the other way, there are a decent number of ricers who think flooring it to 80+ is their god-given right.

You mean on the take as a "public servant". No, not so much.
To be fair, except for the first one who stopped me as a kid in my first Mustang (for "breaking traction" coming out of a driveway), no matter which state, every one of them was doing their job. They were professional, respectful, and either wrote me up for what evidence they had or sent me off with a polite warning. The times I got a ticket, I didn't like it, but I respect that they chose to cite me for something that was tough to argue (such as, "failure to follow posted sign" when I was speeding in drizzling rain and they knew citing the radar reading wouldn't stick.)

If i remember correctly going through Virginia last year, I kept an eye out for every single split in the highway where patrols could sit. So different from doing 110 through Florida with a bunch of cars all the way up to VA. That and the trucks that would see you coming at speed and just pull in front of you . It was a crazy route from FL to NY. Not as bad as I remember the last time I did the trip in a fox body.

So, because they knew full well that they couldn't legally get you for speeding, they unashamedly invented something else, which was a blatant lie, just because they were bent on screwing you one way or the other. And you respect them for that? There's nothing to respect about a corrupt cop. I can hardly think of anything more disgusting.

How in the hell do they get a handcuffed prisoner in the back seat? Well, the trunk is decent sized I guess.
Punishment begins by placing them in the back seat....but if the prisoner is really rowdy, that is what the trunk is for. Hehehe!

Actually SUV's are a pretty common vehicles these, preferred in FL for handling flooded roads...and chasing suspects offroad. But SUV's have become vital for hauling prisoners. And a bonus....you don't have to tell the detainee, "watch your head" when placing them in the back seat. :like:

Last ticket I got was in 2017. It was driving from FL to NJ was... Virginia cop on 95. He was all disgruntled because I was doing 65 in a 55.

If I get a ticket for disobeying the law, regardless of the lack of a sign, how is it the LEO's fault? If one does not know the speed limit, what harm is it to be conservative. I've missed signs that were posted prominently and I drove moderately. I've had places not posted, and drove moderately. Is it so bad to drive moderate in those situations?

It is like I tell my sons...when you get to a yellow light...is your goal to make it through if you can, or stop if you can. The answer as to what you do is not about the traffic light, but what is between your ears. I can reliably predict by responses across this forum, what is going on between peoples ears, when they approach traffic lights, speed limits, etc. I can also reliably predict how a traffic stop will go for each of those groups, and how acceptance/non-acceptance of responsibility will be after-the-fact. AND you can too.

It doesn't matter. That's not the point. If you want to get me for speeding, then you need to catch me fair and square. Period. If the weather works against you, tough luck.
If you invent something else just because you know full well that you can't catch me lawfully, then you're corrupt, and there's no excuse for that.
