Go there to pick up an oil filter for my 2016 GT and I expect him to give me the FL500S filter that I’ve always used but instead he comes out with an FL-2121-B12.

I tell him that’s the wrong filter but he informs me that Ford changed suppliers and that this is the new filter. Is he right?

When I got home I searched online on American Muscle, Levittown Ford parts, etc etc and they all still show the FL500S as the recommended filter. Nowhere did I see this other FL-2121-B12. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Even if ford changed suppliers the part number would remain the same….I sure would thing. FYI Motorcraft filters are available at Walmart, Autozone. Advance Auto etc.

I know in BMW world, part numbers change constantly, usually because of a supplier or design change, so this would not surprise me in the slightest. I would assume even the worst parts counter person could look up a simple part like an oil filter. Gotta be one of the most common things they look up. Perhaps @LevittownFordParts can chime in with some info?

Maybe…the number changed….I just know that the push rod 5.0 has used FL1A filter since at least 1982…

I have no idea why one ford dealer part dept. list it not for sale(old number) and no other number
And for online still list it.
I know not much of a help. maybe the old number had a recall and why quirk list it not for sale.
I guess the easy thing to do would be call another dealers part # and ask.

Do not use that oil filter!!! 🤬 That is not accurate! Where do they find these people? Ridiculous.

Motorcraft oil filter FL-2121-B12 is for a 2016 and 2017 Cadillac ATS, not a Ford Mustang. You need to stick with FL-500S filters for V8/V6 S550 Mustangs and for an ecoboost the filter is FL-910S.

Return that filter for your $ back and if you could - smack that idiot in the head for me please.

Check the motorcraft OEP Brochure Message on FMC from 12/1. According to that guide FL2121B12 crosses to FL500, so that filter will work

I have uploaded the application chart

Thanks for all of the replies fellas! Much appreciated.

And big thanks to @Crew4991 for verifying that the parts guy was in fact an idiot, lol

Honestly didn’t even know MotorCraft made stuff for Cadillac too. Always though MotorCraft was strictly Ford

Wait, what? So it is a replacement? Hmm… 🤔
Gotta love when someone posts actual up to date data...
Maybe that parts guy isn't the uninformed fool some want to make him out to be.
