Oh dear. Launching? What are you doing to it other than replacement or is it covered under warranty?

Yeah Iā€™ve just done this mod in reverse as itā€™s going in to have its cradle dropped - I will keep my black nuts impact free :

After having the black nuts on the car, switching back to silver really made me appreciate this mod again :

At least the black pony centre caps are still trying their hardest to minimise the silver look lol

On the upside, a good inspection of the black nuts confirms absolutely zero issues with the coating and they still look as good as new :sunglasses:

Canā€™t wait to get them back on again :like:

Smart thinking!

Sorry to hear about the damage.

No thatā€™s the funny thing - never used line lock and never launched it off the line :frown: Iā€™ve never really seen the point, these things seem comparatively flat in first gear due to all the torque management and in standard form, there not the quickest of things off the line anyway.

Now rolling onto it once moving is a different story, Iā€™m not shy in that respect and I can get though the box pretty quick.

I suspect itā€™s possibly a combination of two things - maybe a faulty bolt from new (weak and / or not torqued properly) and the stress / shock loading from aggressive 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts.

At least itā€™s kicked my arse into gear to get a few goodies fitted at the same time :like:

Hi KermiStang - These are the only part yet to fit to my FP Track Pack Suspension - I'm a bit gun shy for fear of car being stranded on jack stands in the garage if I can't complete job. I have the below ball joint press - Is this install doable at home??????

Howdy. It's definitely doable at home, but IMO harder to do on the car than with the Knuckle off the car. I can't speak for your exact kit as I'm not sure of the size of the press cylinders, but its important to have the sizes correct. i.e. one larger (but not too much) on one side to "catch" the bearing, and the one on the pull side just slightly smaller than the OD of the bearing. Since I had to do the LCA as well, it all had to came off anyway. I had tried to do the toe bearing previously on the car but found it very awkward to line it up so decided to wait.

Off the car, I had the knuckle held down firmly to a bench and used my puller kit with a high TQ 18v impact gun. Much easier to get the straight alignments in and out.

Getting the knuckle off was not difficult, but you will need a BIG TQ wrench to do up the rear swing arm to Knuckle bolt. (203 ft/lb I think) (Thanks @MaxQ for loaning me one) Also some red loctite for the main hub to half shaft 32mm nut. (And 32mm deep socket too)

NB: I'm sure you've watched a lot of videos and read a lot of posts, but it's still important to mention both the knuckle and the new bearing have a small bevel on one of their respective faces to make it a bit easier to to line them up to press them together. With the old one out (and I can't say enough how totally crappy they are) just lightly clean out the inside of the knuckle bearing surface with a bit of fine wet and dry paper, wipe out with some solvent/brake cleaner and when dry, apply a smear of engine oil. Mine went in a lot easier than they came out, as the old ones were actually not perfectly round and machined, and were rough surfaced and rusted (only low kms).

Hope you love this mod as much as I did. Game changer for me. I reckon the car shrank and lost weight with these!

Thanks. They are quality replacement parts. The orig' Ford ones on the Toe, LCA, and Camber arms are just complete rubbish. I mean REALLY poor quality. My RH LCA already had a tear and I've only very low KM's. The FP toe bearing is a quality part too, and just another thing that should have been standard on a PP1 car, IMO. (It may be std on a PP2?) I was just writing to someone about the camber arm bushes. Yuk! With everything out I was trying to move them, but they are (like the others) the type that don't rotate and instead just bind up in a very small range of movement. Hence why it is critical if doing this type of work (and not replacing them with real type bearings) to "Clock those bushes" with the suspension loaded. (great thread elsewhere in this site to explain) Still lots of work to do, but had to have a break. After TQ'ing / Re-TQ'ing many of the high TQ bolts, two days later I still can't make a fist. LOL. First morning after I could not even touch my fingers to my palms without screaming.šŸ˜© Yep I have cert' girly man hands šŸ˜‚. Regular ice water treatment, magnesium and fish oil tab's.

Hi All,

Iā€™ve been away for a while, a long time actually!

after an accident in our Territory (2018) I sold the Black Mustang and got a Volvo XC90. That was a big mistake, very difficult to manoeuvre and I didnā€™t like it.

Traded that on a Race Red FN auto with Recaros and rear spoiler that was on dealer showroom floor. Fantastic performance but when Covid hit it just sat in the garage. I decided to sell that as prices were moving north.

Fast forward to 2022 and I fulfilled my wifeā€™s dream of a Mercedes - we got a C300 demo and itā€™s a great car with surprising performance from the 2 litre turbo.

Sadly, no V8 in the garage so Iā€™ve put my name down at my Ford dealer, Sinclair Ford, for an S650 GT, Black with Magneride, standard seats and not decided on a spoiler.

Sheā€™s about 15 months away and I think that was the wait time for my first Mustang.

Itā€™s great to be back and I see a lot of familiar user names are still around and quite a few new ones!

Cheers,

Jim
