I'm sure some people already replied to this, but Germans (and especially BMW) are known to underrate their own cars, there's plenty of dyno runs out there where it's pushing out past 500hp.

So something like the 473hp on the M4 is actually that to the wheels or even more, while something like my 480hp Bullitt is I believe 410-420hp to the wheels.

Your Bullitt is probably closer to 440. Non Bullitts are in the 420 range. I agree, the manual M4s are hitting 120+ in the traps at almost 3800lbs.

Huh, you're right. Steeda's dyno run was 435hp and 382 lb-ft before a tune and 457/400 after. I've only watched one before at they were in the low 400s, probably not doing it right.
I guess I didn't even realize that, neat, thanks!

I have had 2 E46 M3s, 1 E46 325i, one BMW X3, 1 E90 328i and 2 E92 M3s. They were all great cars. The only car that had any warranty work was the X3, a module in the front transfer case went bad. Im glad it was under warranty because even back in 2007 it was s $2k repair.

The only BMW that's caught my attention is the M2 Comp. They remind me of my first BMW A 1982 320is.

Not my actual 320 is. I could not find a pic of an original S in silver.

Never ever have a BMW that is out of warranty. From first hand experience I can tell you they will eat you alive.

My 2013 E92 M3 was out of warranty for 3 years without 1 issue. Although I know people who had a different experience 😕

I was on a crash course for a G80, having an F80, and 2 E92 M3's. I could just not warm to the look of the grill, and the overall size. Just about a year ago, traded the F80 for an M2CS.

That's great, I wish I could have had the same experience. Bought a 2007 530Xi Touring in 2012. Every six months it was $2K for something. Left my wife stranded twice. Used the highest rated independent BMW mech in the city, who did great work, but it was tiresome.

Let me guess, HPFP? Also the E92 M3s were pretty stout.

Yep, fuel pump was one, valve cover gasket leaks twice, I think. Drains plugged on the roof and filled the spare tire wheel well with water where a billion dollars of electronics were installed. WTF? What type of engineering is that?

I am under no illusions my HPP has Toyota-like reliability, but I did have a Pinto that lasted 18 years and a first generation Expedition that was bullet proof, so I have my fingers crossed.

Plus as "sophisticated" as the HPP is with turbos, magneride, IRS, 12 LCD and whatnot, it still is not as "sophisticated" as a BMW. When things break, I hope not to spend BMW labor and part prices. Time will tell. I baby it pretty much and have a bit over 6K on it after 20 off months of ownership.

When her BMW was running, it was great. In fact, if they still sold in the US a 5 series wagon, my wife would sell her RAV4 this afternoon and buy one new with an extended warranty.

Unfortunately that year up until 2008 was the worse year for those cars.
