Are Nitto NT555G2's really that bad for a stock GT?

I don't "need" tires and wheels until spring, but based on another thread here I decided to be proactive due to the long ship times for the Project6G wheels.

I contacted Need4Speed and he quoted me on a set of Nitto NT555G2's. I know pretty much nothing about car tires. If you want to talk truck or atv tires I can go on for hours. That said, my new (to me) GT will be staying stock motor wise outside of an Xpipe for the near future. I want a good set of tires on the car. It will really only be driven in nice weather. No winter driving, but it may see some cooler fall days. Rain could happen so some wet weather traction would be a plus.

What would everyone suggest? Maybe for my needs the G2's would be fine? The price quoted from Need4Speed seemed very good. My plan is to stay with 19" wheels. I'm looking for a flush/close to flush look with no poke.

discountTire.com not available near you? For $270 each (DT's price) there are plenty of others to choose from too. Tirerack has clearance sales, and you can get 20-30% off Goodyear if you're with USAA.

What size are you pursuing? I've got a stacks of PS4S/PSS in 255/275-295 with <1000 miles on them if that's something you might like.

I ran G2’s on my last GT for a few years and I liked them so much i’m getting a new set when I get wheels.

I never had a good experience with the local discount tire. I have a couple of smaller mom and pop shops that are always competitive and I usually purchase from them unless I order a set online for a screaming deal. I was quoted 285/35/19 and 305/35/19 for a staggered setup. Though I may still go with 285/35 all around for a square setup.

They aren't terrible, but don't expect any traction from about 3/4er throttle and on up when going WOT.
When my mustang was stock and I would go WOT in 2nd gear, they would give off a long chirp when my A10 shifted to 3rd and sometimes when it hit fourth.

Nittos are what they're like to sell you, but that doesn't mean they're what you want to buy.

Somehow I imagine they have a great profit margin for vendors. Firehawk Indy 500, Continental Sport Contact are others which seem to actually be good for the price.

I replaced the OEM Pirelli's on my '15 GT with Nitto555's and they were a LOT better. They'll be high on my list when I have to choose tires for my Bullitt.

Michelin pilot sport 4S is a superior tire in every way. Slightly more expensive, but it’s marginal when you look at cost/mile and not cost/tire.

What sizes do people run for a staggered setup of 19" MPS4S?

Best I can tell the G2's had 5-10k miles on them when I bought. They are terrible on the rear. Put super sports on last month in 305/35/19, so much better. PS4S going on the front next month to replace G2's (285/35/19).

What makes them bad? Loss of traction?

Yep. They easily got squirrely with my manual PP2. The SuperSports grip so much better and don't get wild in the same situations.
