Probably my ‘69 Firebird. Got it from a buddy needing Xmas money back in ‘99. I had a 98 T/A at the time. Think I gave $1200 for it. A running 350/4spd car with 4.11’s. Primed but needed a little bodywork. Never did much with it. 2004 I went overseas and bought a low mile 02 LS1/T56 and threw one of the biggest cams that’d fit in it. Got it running and had boxes of parts sitting around, then had a big layoff scare at work and panicked and parted it out. I had Hotchkiss suspension, Z06 wheels, 335’s, 69 T/A body parts, 02 Firehawk dash, seats, console. It was basically going to be a 1st Gen T/A clone with the last year T/A interior and drivetrain. This was before Pro-Touring became a thing. No layoff and I still work there today..should have waited and rode it out. Live and learn I guess.

In my case, the opposite is true. I've got 2 favorites, both substantially smaller and lighter than my Mustang.
First up is my 944. It hasn't moved in years but I still have it, it's a couple hundred lbs lighter than stock (18lbs off the crank alone) and is about as modified as a normally aspirated 944 can get. It's about as much fun as 190hp can possibly get.

Second was my 1980 VW Scirocco S. Started out as 70 hp and 1950 lbs, I got it to 110+ hp and took 100lbs off of it. IIRC it ran 14.20. this was back in '83-84 and the new vettes were easy targets. Nobody expected much from a little VW or any import, it would be a few years before there were aftermarket parts for Honda's. The downside was that the lower control arms became maintenance issue, the front wheels would work their way toward the rear of the wheel wells.
I think 944s are great as well. They are just about the perfect size. I'm 6'4" and I have lots of head room. I wish Ford would make a Mustang closer to 944 size.

I know there’s things that happen in pictures but that 944 looks small compared the Mustang. It is amazing the size difference.

The 944 is over-built in typical Porsche fashion and still weighs about 800 lbs less than a Mustang GT. When you drive the 944, the body feels extremely solid. Brick s-house solid.

And Porsche's 4-cylinder engine weighs about the same as an LS-3. So you can swap to a V8 and keep the 50-50 weight balance.

The 944 has 4 seats, but the back seats are more of a shelf. People complain about the Mustang rear seats, but the 944 rear seats are a lot smaller. And it doesn't have the huge trunk or massive engine compartment of the Mustang.

I miss my E92 335i every now and then... it was the ideal non-M 3-Series in my opinion; the N54 was ahead of its time with the introduction of a mainstream, hi-po TTI6 in the entry-level luxury segment, it was a good size and weight (~3550lbs), the steering was still hydraulic with beautiful weighting and communication, and it was fun to drive at any speed. I also think it was a standout design - tasteful even during the Bangle era, with tons of sharp creases in a period where most cars were soft and frumpy, and with DRLs that stood out when LEDs weren't everywhere. That car really was forward-looking.

Toss up between 1979 Trans Am w T Tops, Smokey and Bandit edition and a 1987 Buick GNX. One was fun as a wild teen, the GNX was a bucket list dream car. It didn't disappoint.

Do you still have either one? The GNX will be worth some coin.

Sold the TA in 1996 for $3k. Sold the GNX in 2017 for about $40k but it was a basket case. I tried putting it back together after my girlfriend wrapped it around a telephone pole. Designated drivers shouldn't drive GNXs.

Sold the Caddy to get the Mustang, still have the MR2. Hard to say which I like (or liked) more.

The 944 feels like your butt will scrape over speed bumps, it's not much higher than a go cart. The S550 feels like a SUV in comparison.

By far my Alfa Romeo Quadraflio. Car handles like a dream. Is over 600 HP with mods. Driving it after driving the Mustang is night and day difference in feel.
