Just got woken up to a call from my local Ford Dealership. I had my Mach 1 in recently just to check over some things. But they have informed me that Ford told them NOT to lubricate the gasket/seal on the oil filter because in can back it self off from aggressive driving. I just changed my own oil about 100 miles ago and he remembered me telling him I was doing so and gave me a rang. He told me to check on the tightness and if I wanted to, I can bring it in and they'll replace the oil/filter. I'm probably just going to throw it on the ramps, let it sit then swap out the filter myself.

But in all my years on working on a pretty "normal" range of vehicles, never have I been told not to lubricate the oil filter! We had a pretty good laugh about it. But I wanted to post this so others can be aware of the possibility of the oil filter backing itself off.

Same thoughts I had. We assumed it's because of aggressive track testing done by Ford? Since it still uses the FL500s filter and not the one similar to the GT350, that it may be the reason, but who knows...

I'd want to see the TSB on this. Not lubing the gasket can cause it to tear.

Think that is odd at the very least. Searched the filter looks pretty standard to me .

id lube it, and then id check for leaks after some spirited driving. I have never heard of a gasket not needing oiled.

I just went out and checked it, and it's fine for the moment. I just wanna hear/see Ford's reasoning for stating this

Seems like a "wait and see" deal. I'm fine with checking the filter every couple hundred miles until more info rears it's head.

Checking filter, adding more CW torque ? The next filter change will require a screwdriver assist .

Never heard of a dry install, if that filter can/could loosen. Replace it with the K&N drill a hole in the nut, run some safety wire .

This is a coyote motor we're talking about right?
