Empire is not the best star wars movie. Why is it everyone always parroting that it is?

Out of the first trilogy, empire was the best, but when you take into consideration all 9 movies and the 2 spinoffs, rouge one is the best movie hands down.

BTW, rouge one is too good to be a spinoff, it needs to be a prequel and replace episodes 1-3. If anything, they should re-edit and condense 1-3 into one movie and eliminate all the fluff and non-essential garbage out of them (like jar-jar, and the affair between Anakin and queen Amidala) and have it roll right into the beginning of rouge one, just like rouge ended with the beginning of a new hope.

I think Empire is perhaps the best I remember seeing it in the theaters when it came out and those huge Imperial Walkers were so cool of an effect especially way back then. Now for a more worthy debate I propose Jarr Jarr for best Star Wars character. Eat it!

Rogue One was a breath of fresh air after so many dissapointments.

Not a chance for me. Being 5 y.o. at the time of release for Empire also kept me out of the theatre. However, I did manage to snag a bootleg copy of Empire on VHS. Watched it until the tape finally gave up.
I also recall taping Star Wars off the TV.
Somehow I failed to remove the ads, so on each viewing, had to fast-forward through the ads......D’oh!
I can even recall the ads
Those were the days!

Of the original trilogy yes. But not over all.

The top 3 Star Wars movies are:

1. Empire
2. SpaceBalls
3. Star Wars (The original, later called A New Hope)

I'm not a fan of Jedi and the later abominations aren't worth watching.

Honorable mention goes to this review of Phantom Menace, which I think is made by an insider. It's substantially more entertaining than anything except the 1 & 2 in my 'best of' list. :

What all of these kids lose is how big Star Wars was at the time. It's hard to blame them, we rarely have anything like this in our present day society which can compare.
