Ziplock bag. Put it around the filter once it is loose and unscrew it with the bag over it. Let the filter drop into ziplock bag. Success.

Form a funnel. Shape it into a U and Jam it up and past the oil filter and it'll hold itself there.

Unscrew filter a few turns and let the oil run down the funnel into the drain pan.

Once it's finished draining spin the filter off completely and keep it open side up and pull it out.

Never spilt a drop once changing to this method.

They just weren't thinking about us do-it-yourselfers, or what that oil will do to those cables over time.

You just gotta find the gadget (or household item) that works for you.

Oil soaked wire looms/bundles are not a good thing. Heck the DIYs are in a MUCH better position, here. Cause we know to protect that area, getting the car serviced.

What are the odds that Quick lube will take the time to cover the area....... none

Used plastic the last time, I do like the Aluminum foil idea .

Chances a quick lube does anything right are slim.

It’s not easy without Making a mess . You can loosen off the oil filter a little ,then put a plastic bag Over the filter and unscrew it by hand and put it into a oil tray . Keep the filter up right as much as possible when undoing it off the engine .

I used some aluminum coil stock to push up behind the filter to get all the oil to the drain pan. I have the dimensions written down somewhere - it worked perfectly and held itself in place due to the tension caused by the side bends...

That pretty much goes for any service provided these days. Cannot trust others to do the right thing if not being watched.

Half -ass is the POD (plan of the day) ..

Was not always like this, of course there are always some, today it's most.
