I love how the NRG steering wheels look and want to buy one for my auto 2018 GT. I realize that I would be losing all of the steering wheel controls and airbag. I am okay with this except for the paddle shifters, I want to be able to shift myself when I want. Is there anyway to keep paddle shifting functionality with one of their wheels? Any aftermarket paddle shifters as an attachment or something?

Then as a secondary question that isnā€™t important but I want to know if their is anyway to also keep the cruise control functionality with the wheel as well? Paddle shifters are priority, cruise control is optional but would be nice.

Any help with this would be great! Iā€™ve been looking around but not exactly sure what might work. Thanks!

Have you asked NRG? I'd start there. My $.02!

Already have, unfortunately I got a very short answer of ā€œYou willbe losing both paddles and cruise control.ā€ That is all that they replied with.

I figure there is at least one person who has done something like this, even if not with this car.

I emailed NRG again and asked if they knew of any aftermarket products that could be used with their wheels to retain paddle shift functionality.

Their response: ā€œWe unfortunately have no idea on aftermarket paddle shifters and if they will work with our setups. I wish there was more I can help you with but we have not tried doing anything like this before.ā€

I also emailed sparcoā€™s customer service but havenā€™t heard anything back.

Anyone else have any knowledge about this?

Is this a daily driver? I can't get past the idea of losing the airbag

It is my daily but plenty of other people use aftermarket steering wheels without airbags on their dailyā€™s. I know it obviously less safe but from what NRG said, a lot of old vehicles didnā€™t even come with them and arenā€™t required by law so Iā€™m not too worried.

Just my 2 cents. There are far nicer steering wheels that maintain all original options. I personally donā€™t like the look of the NRG wheel. Feel like itā€™s something that I saw a lot in the late 90ā€™s

I feel like removing the airbag is violating some kinda law.

Tell that to ALL the folks that removed their cat's or use a non-CARB tune!!!!

So everyone who drives an auto without an airbag should have their autos chushed?

Not necessarily, cars have not had steering wheel airbags longer than they have had them.

I think the paddle shifting and cruise are going to be a tall mountain to overcome .

Thinking impossible unless you could put it together.

Do you know What kind of injuries you can get from the steering wheel? Do you know how many lives are saved by the steering wheel airbag? Look it up some time. It's fascinating.

Here's another question: what does the insurance company do if an accident occurs and injuries are sustained due to lack of the steering wheel airbag that came with the car. Think they'll be cool with it?

The overall safety restraint system is designed to work as a whole. What does removing the airbag do to that system? If you don't know, probably best not to mess with it.

Is that what I said? No. That's not what "it's your funeral" means. It means you'll deal with the consequences of your decisions.
