Good morning guys!

Im new at this forum, so first I wanna introduce myself: my name is Jorge; im from Ensenada, México & i have a collection of 6 mustangs:
1. 1964.5 ford mustang (bought this one for spare parts for the fatsback then i ran the vin and it turned out it was a 64.5)
2. 1966 fastback (just started the build)
3. 1967 shelby gt500 (fuel injected with paxton supercharger)
4. 1968 mustang convertible (stock v8)
5. 2020 shelby gt500
6. 2016 salvage green mustang (bought it cause of the color, you know bullit/steve mcqueen)

So, moving on to this salvage mustang, it is pretty damage (mostly the front like usual) and im thinking of doing the facelift (2018-20) cause the cost ($) for parts are almost the same for the normal & the facelift.

I know we have to do wiring for headlights, fenders, bumper & hood, but what i dont know exactly is if the radiator support changes (it is a different part number) but i think its still the same.

Has anybody dealt with this before? Or do they know 100% if its different or the same?

P.S: i`ve read a couple of threads of facelift but none of them talk about the radiator support

The radiator support, and everything involved in the front end, is different for 18+ cars. They're completely different front ends, not just a "facelift".

Guaranteed the radiator support is a different part, not the same part with a different number. The front ends are completely different after 2018.

Just keep it a 2016. It will be much easier.

Thanks! But ive been buying salvage cars for more than 10 years, this is a walk in the park
I would be interested in seeing this re-build to completion. I hope you plan on taking pictures and posting the repair progress. This would be very educational. Good luck! You have a lot of work ahead of you.

I used "facelift" to keep it simple, i know that it takes more stuff to it, but for me its the same hustle keeping it original or the new front end.

I thought it would be different but same thing happened with the radiator support for a dodge challenger, the facelift (2015-20) had different part number but it was the same identical one to an older one.

Find a source that has both and ask them to take some pictures. Different part numbers usually mean difference, even if they are minor.

And yes, please start a build thread so you can document your progress. Would love to see it.

You may want to give Vorshlag a call they did 2018 front end on a 2016 salvage that they bought to race. You may ask them.

Yup, that is Guard Green. The only dark green made available for the S550.
and only available to the 2015 S550 too.

As for the front end, the core support, the forward top extensions off the top of the support and the inner fenders forward of the front wheels I believe are all different. The reason being is due to the redesign of the slope of the hood which allowed more forward vision for the driver. Front fenders were sloped in the same manner that match the downward slope of the hood.

Front crash bar will be different too in order to properly fit the redesigned 2018 fascia. Any topside plastics under the hood that cover the radiator area are all different as is the mounting position of the hood prop rod.

The obvious will be headlights, as they went to full LED starting 2018. I think you’re going to need new body harnesses for the headlights and I’m sure you’re going to run into Body Control Module issues where you will need to use the proper BCMs and matching As Built coding.

Anything from the A-pillars backwards is all still 2015-2020 compatible as far as structure and body panels. The rear bumper cover, black trunk lid appliqué section and the taillights were the only parts revised starting in 2018.

It is a good project, definitely keep this thread going with your whole progress - from tear down to building it.

This was the only other thread I could find that was recent with someone wanting to do a 2015-17 to 18+ front end conversion (see post #6):

Have you considered a GT500 front end?
