Virginia and Washington DC are the places they are not legal. I heard South Carolina but I think they are legal there.

Virginia for sure and i think Connecticut but don't know about any other states.

I find it especially interesting that both VA and DC allow laser jammers. ...
I think it is a weird mix of rules and regulations that allows that.
Radars and radar detectors are considered radio devices that are under the purview of FCC. Lasers on the other hand are considered optical devices which are governed by FDA.
Go Figure!

Can confirm VA no radar detectors.

But people still stealth mount theM in their cars, where they can't be seen inside or out. Shops around here specialize in hiding detectors.

Which shops? I'm in NOVA as well.

Too easy to spot with windows down. Plus I have the color remote display installed so don't need to see the actual detector.
I always remove mine when i park the car.

I was thinking more of a LEO looking through the window during a non traffic stop, like going through a base gate.

As long as it is off, they usually don't say anything when driving onto a base. I've been reminded a few times when passing through that I have to have it off when on-base but never have I been told to remove it.

One in Alexandria. If you want, I can search for the company name.

I watched them take a C7 dash/console apart, hide the detector in the front end of the car, with a discrete, hidden control panel in the console somewhere.

Under the mirror with a Blendmount and a wiretap is a great location for an R7. Mine is extremely sensitive in this location, it's tucked up tight by the mirror, not un the way of anything (including line of site) and is easy to see and adjust.
These things are line if site,so the higher on windshield the better.i keep my Valentine which tracks both front and rear under mirror so I can turn volume up or down.btw having a rear warning is very helpful.

They make radar detector detectors for that but some radar detectors have radar detector detectors built into them to detect detectors.

The cops have since gotten wise of these radar detector detectors and now some have radar detector detector detectors.

I am waiting for companies to come out with radar detector detectors detector detectors.
I believe the most common radar detector detector is the Stalker.

https://www.stalkerradar.com/spectreIV/redirect.php

There are detectors that do not emit a signal they can pick up, such as the Escort Redline 360C and the Radenso line. (OK some of Radensos are maybe 10ā€™) I imagine there are others.

I need a new one. Radenso has a new one coming out sometime this year. Car will be sitting mostly until spring so Iā€™m waiting to see whatā€˜s available then.
