Doesn't really matter as the thread is about side to side. Maybe this will make it clearer.............

https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/tire-rotation-patterns
Not new to me (although don't have the patterns memorized). Back in the day we rotated tires like that but then most tires became directional so started rotating front to back only. The disconnect for me is perhaps that has changed? Lots of non-directional tires out there now?

I didn't think you were supposed to criss cross the tires on these cars.
I've always hear it was bad for the steel belts.
Front to back, back to front is all I've done for a long time. It's all I've seen any tire shop do too...
Manual says to move fronts to back and switch sides.

Good to know it's ok. Though, to be honest, as long as the fronts aren't wearing unevenly, I don't see much point.

To the op's question I'd use one jack stand and one jack. Using the spare seems overly complicated unless you don't own jack stands

What you're likely to see today is tires with the sidewalls marked "OUTSIDE" and "INSIDE". You just swap them side to side without having to flip them on the rims.

This is the only way you can get easy rotating of any sort when there is any stagger in the tire sizes or wheel widths or offsets.

I've been using the pumpkin for the last few years after seeing a mechanic do it. No issues

Mechanics have been known to cut corners in the name of beating the flat rate time. Always trying to squeeze another minute out of the time it takes to do a job so they can start getting paid for the next one. Just sayin' . . .

Guess I’ll stop doing it this way and by that spanner piece for the jack
Jack rails are nice but add weight

Two, even three floor jacks are pretty cheap. I think I have three. Or at least two.

Safer, easier.

The last time I was under my car, I used two floor jacks and 4 jack stands. Being ultra-safe.

They add a whopping 11.6 pounds to your car. If you started exercising, you could lose 11.6 pounds and call it even. What do ya say?

Seriously though, what do you do with your car where 11.6 pounds would matter?

Something like these.

Amazon.com: YZ-Room 2 Pack Universal Jack Pad Slotted Rubber Jack Pad Medium Size - Frame Rail Protector Puck/Pad Keeps Pinch Weld, Paint and Metal Safe (2 Pack): Automotive

For even less money, hockey pucks (you choice whether to bother slotting them or not). No installation, no added car weight.

I doubt losing 11.6 pounds will make your car any faster or handle any better. Especially since that weight is evenly distributed in the middle of the car and it is at a low center of gravity.

Installation of the jacking rails was a whopping 2 bolts per side. The whole installation takes 10 minutes if you hurry, 30 minutes at a snails pace.

Plus jacking rails give you infinitely more jacking points. There's no guessing where to jack the car up at. You can even jack the car up in the middle of the rail and raise the whole side of the car up. I don't see a floor jack with a jack pad on top being able to lift one side of the car up at a factory jacking point location. I usually use a piece of wood on the floor jack so I don't scratch anything up.

I realize I sound like a bad commercial, but jacking rails are the ticket lol.

I've spent a fair amount of time cycling. I have an older bike that's noticeably heavier than current models, and I often think about replacing it. Then I realize that before I pay $5000 to take 4 pounds off of my bike, I could take 20 pounds off of me for free.

CB05 provides a jacking location. As do the Steeda / BMR frame rails...
