If you stand on the fender side of the mirror, just grab an pull towards you ,and they come right off.
The service manual has you taking the mirror motor out and removing a hidden screw that attaches the car to the base.

If you follow the Ford directions to install there GT350 red push to start button, it will have you spend 4 hours ripping your entire dash apart to do it.

Or, you could grab a pick and pop the button off, then pop the new one on in 2 minutes.

If you follow the Ford directions to change the front sway bar, you have to remove the engine.

Or, you could spend 20 minutes and feed the sway bar out of the drivers side wheel well.

I can tell you with personal experience the mirror cap pops off, and can be reinstalled. I have done it to my last 3 mustangs. If I had my car in the garage, I would make a how to video for you.

Jamie, I am a retired aircraft mechanic, so I know there are many different ways to get the job done, but that screw has me concerned.

I have been waiting to see one with a paint matched swing
It may just be me but I have to say, the car looks pretty good without the rear spoiler. Classy even.

I am waiting to see how much disassembly will be required in order to remove the mirror caps for paint.
Earl: I couldn't tell if sarcasm was the intent but if not, I can tell you the caps come right off. One of mine had broken clips from Flat Rock and fell off in the garage while drying her off. Took awhile to get the replacment and another week plus to get the darn thing painted by the dealer but it got done.

Unless the GT500 mirror differs from all other S550 mustangs (I doubt it), there is not a screw holding the cap on. Or at least there is not a screw preventing the cap from popping off and on.

There is NO screw but popping them off can break clips that hold them securely. However many many people have used this method without causing damage. Since i am painting the whole mirror base and all I will be removing the mirror anyway so no need to take a chance.

I am a big fan of the spoilerless S550, but not on the GT500, it almost looks neutered without some type of spoiler or wing.

Yes, it is possible a clip could break. I am not saying it's the most delicate way to get them off. I changed mine out and returned them to stock on my last two cars, my sons car, and a friends car for a total of 8 times without incident. I does feel a little barbaric, but satisfying at the same time, lol.

I picked up an extra pair of liners as to keep a set of un-molested ones for future use. I modified one set by using a heat gun to shape some spots, and cut out the louvers. I picked up an aluminum sheet of mesh, formed it, and riveted it into place. This was 75% of the rubbing for me. Doing this gave the tire an extra 1/2" depth, and it no longer rubbed.

Joining the club of painted covers..... HOWEVER they didn't do mine correctly. They forgot to paint the stripes and only did the lettering. They seemed as perplexed as I was. They are correcting though, hopefully quick, as the lead time on these is long.
