For others that questioned BMW reliability....
I bought my 335xi with 50k miles on it. I have 120k on it and have been running it tuned since I had it. As far as reliability, The major things I had was injectors (expensive for BMWs) and water pump (more than once on the water pump). I also had a few other minor things like valve cover gasket, coils, etc. I think that's not too bad for 70,000 miles pushing more than double the stock boost with 500 HP (basic FBO car). The N54 is a pretty bullet proof engine.

My X5 msport with the N63 twin turbo V8 is a different story.
I also had a 335i coupe with the N54 and that car was awesome. It was FBO with a Cobb tune. The reliability on mine wasn't that bad either, although the water pump going out sucked. Even though I like my Mustang better overall, there's no doubt my E92 was the better built car.

Mine peaked at right before 5,000rpm and it doesn't fall on it's face. Top end is pretty decent on the n54s. However, you do want to shift it before redline (around 6k) to keep it in it's powerband. Both HP and TQ start to drop off before redline.

Are you talking about the Mustang or the BMW? I know Mustangs have the sound tube and something with the speakers to enhance engine sound. Maybe the BMWs have it also? I don't really know much of the details on BMW models beyond the e90.

My 335i only has 69k miles and mild upgrades. It has been solid, with no major repairs. The HPFP was replaced under warranty and it has had a few minor recalls. It has had a taillight and side marker light replaced. Otherwise just brakes, tires and oil changes. If you put it next to my Mustang, you can see the difference in finish quality, even though the BMW is 9 years older.

I almost bought a 550i with the N63 tt engine from a friend. But, I decided I didn't want to take the chance, even though the engine has had the valve guide fix and other remediation work done. But, I have to say, that 550i really moves with a few minor tweaks and a tune.

Generally speaking, BMW gets a bad rap for reliability, based on a few bad models. It isn't unusual to see BMWs last 150k - 200k miles and more. Maintenance costs are just higher than other brands.

In case you didn't know, the GT350 has engine noise piped in through the speakers and the GTs have the dreaded "sound tube" coming from the intake into the cabin. Modern cars are so well insulated that companies need to do this in order to get engine sound into the cabin.
I have no idea why they decided to do this on the GT350. I turned mine off through Forscan and really couldn't tell a difference in sound. It must be fairly subtle. And IMO the GT350 exhaust note is plenty loud enough to be heard in the cabin. I even laid down the rubberized sound deadening material all through the trunk, rear seat and quarters. The GT350 with the sound deadening was really nice and quiet cruising on the highway, but the exhaust note was still plenty loud when I stepped on it.

My car 2019 gutted racecar. I never saw any soundtube to remove going into cabin. Show me where it is? If there at least if physical you can take it out. You cannot delete from phoney m4 posseur.

All GTs have the sound tube from the factory. They also pump sound through the speakers for mustangs and f150s. I think you would have to deactivate same as you would in the BMW.

My GT doesn’t have the sound tube as it gets removed when they install the Roush Supercharger.

Only the ecoboost gets sound pumped into the cabin from the speakers. The E92 M3s didn't have any sound pumped in to the cabin. The 8 individual throttle bodies pumped in a lot f beautiful noise into the cabin.

Regarding my experience with BMW as far as reliability, my last E92 M3 I had for almost 7 yrs. and not one, not one issue.

Some of the newer BMWs do have some issues, but not the M cars they are pretty stout. The F8X cars are extremely reliable as well.

I found the sound tube. I had no idea what that stupid thing was hanging off my intake. I just pulled it off took 5 mins! I think I just saved 2lb up high and cleaned up by engine bay. You can't do that with a BMW. notice the big hole that captures the base of the impossible to reach nut. It is big you can pull the tube right off and not have to remove the nut.

Big thing. How did it affect the sound inside?

If anyone is in the DMV area, Ted Britt Chantilly has a BMW M4 w/ Competition Package. Could compare that to their in-stock PP1 Mustangs.

Speaking of the M4, saw one drive by my house today while I was doing yard work - they are good looking cars. Not sure if it was the Comp model or not.

I have to admit based on these two pics, I like the M4 front end better. Maybe it's because white is my least favorite color on the Mustang, and I've never like those asymmetric stripes.

Sold my 2018 M3 Comp pack manual for a 2019 GT350R and I have not looked back since. To me the GT350 feels more special and corners better. It gets more attention despite it being stripeless and being a simple color (white). And of course that naturally aspirated sound.
The M3 is more refined and is a more practical car. If I had a choice I would have both cars in my garage.
Can't go wrong with either one. I think its all about preference and what meets your needs.
An FBO GT will give either car a run for its money :)

The M4 is good looking outside and has a decent interior. If it had a V8 and cost $30k less I would be interested in one.

I just made this decision, bought a 2020 Bullitt.

Owned an E36 M3 for 20 years. Enjoyed the car, but I wanted something newer and more reliable. $$ for $$ the Mustang is a great bargain. For the same entry price, you are looking at a 4-5 year old M4 in my area. I keep cars a long time, and wouldn't own a 2000 or newer BMW without a warranty.

I intentionally went for the standard suspension, and other than a bit of lift/ float at hard throttle, I really like the Bullitt. My first Mustang (or Ford for that matter). It hit all the right spots for my purposes. Hoping the Steeda IRS bracket will help keep the front end down (not at speed, just at hard accel) but likely will need some suspension work. Not a big deal, but definitely noticeable.

FBO (E85 headers) A10 Gt will smoke both in 1/4 mile. Wouldn't even be close.
