Like all manufacturers they are “rationalising “ their dealer network. It will be interesting to see where and when the axe will fall.

It makes sense. The game doesn't work this way anymore. People research their car online, configure it on the Ford website or somewhere like Carwow, go into a dealership and place an order. The dealers don't need so many cars on their lots anymore.

And when they are all battery operated they won’t need such frequent services either. Makes sense to cut costs sooner rather than after they go bust

They'll still break down and require warranty repair. Ford heralding a whole new world of piss-poor customer service.

I worry for the job losses.

As for EVs, BEVs will probably require frequent coolant changes.
Brake fluid.
Tyres
Then there's enduring Elephant in the room, battery service life. Once established, I expect there'll be a turn-over of battery replacements, etc.
Possibly not a sufficient volume of servicing to stustain the current size of the franchise, but I suppose it'll all come out in the green-wash.

Smaller franchises dealers will start to disappear, Ford want you to go to the big main “Ford Stores” where you can get everything for all models including service, parts and body shops.

how it should be too... but doesn’t someone always own the dealership? Ford doesn’t own any dealerships.

Let alone the dealers, Ford UK may be no more soon, there's talk of them pulling out of UK and Europe. Doesn't surprise me when the only desirable car they currently produce is the Mustang.

Mustang is clearly not a Ford Europe produced car and a small seller in the UK so contribution to profit is minimal. In fact the CO2 output of the Mustang threatens it's existence in Europe because of it's effect on profit.

No evidence that Ford are going to pull out of Europe and actually made a small profit in Q1 this year pre-COVID. Current range is selling well with the Fiesta, Focus, Puma and Kuga all well placed.

May be different in the UK to the US but small 'family' run dealerships in the UK are usually the best compared to the large chains that are just shifting numbers.

All depends where you go but wave goodbye to those Family run dealers and make friends with your local Ford Store.

That makes it even worse for Ford UK that they can't produce a desirable car now that RS has gone. As for emissions, yet Ferrari, Lambo can continue to send emissions by the gallon into the atmosphere.

They made a small profit in Q1, oh well crack open the champagne. Get a grip.

Having made some catastrophic losses in recent years a small profit is pretty good. No business can survive constant losses. There was a time when Ford Europe was propping up Ford US a few years ago.

Re Lambo / Ferrari etc - they are not independent companies. Their CO2 figures are offset by loads of Fiat 500's and VW Ups produced by their parent companies !

'Ford UK' do not make any cars - there is no such thing. It is Ford Europe. Plenty of good Ford cars other than the RS Focus. Plenty are desirable - just depends what you desire !
