They ran the first group from 2015-2017, second group from 2018-2020, it would not be a far fetch for them to run the next group from 2021 to 202?. I have read the S550 is supposed to retire in 2026, 2021, 2024, and several other years, it does not seem that they have a clue when they are going to go to the new shared platform.
In terms of model years it's 2021 to 2022. The S550 is not going on beyond 2022.

In fact the "next generation" S650 has already been designed from what I hear and it's being locked in this summer.

I pretty much helped leak the timeline for the S650, thanks to my cousin at Ford, giving me an Easter egg.

The redesigned CD6 Mustang is 2027, because of the amount of investment in S650 is way too much to keep it less than 4 years. ROI is a thing.

For some weird reason I still can't understand, car companies have this weird tendency to release a face lift the same year they finish designing the next gen model. Kind of like they're tossing the baton.

Update for 2021 makes sense. Apparently the 2018 facelift was supposed to parallel the original plans, Mark Fields had for a CD6 2021 Mustang reaching design definition (before prod. in Dec '20). We all know that Hackett killed it shortly before design approval.

I think this also happened back in early 2012 with the 2013 S197s coming out when they finished designing the 2015. It's always an interesting pattern and kind of a hint to those who can piece it together.

Ford management has said that the next gen is in very early development and there is no firm timeline for the change. 2025 at earliest.
I'm not sure that's true beyond the advanced team stages. There probably isn't a regular production development team yet, since S650 is still underway

This S650 is going to run quite awhile. I'm hearing that S750 will debut after the 15th generation F-150 goes on sale. Both these icons will be ground up all new

That's when the Ranger moves to a modular sharing architecture with F-Series in 2029 and T6 is replaced.

The replacement for the S650 is probably going to be signed off around 2024, in terms of styling times of styling buck. For now we just get a heavily revised D5, kind of like Fox to SN95.

After that the 2025 Mustang will probably be a minor refresh (like the 1996 Mustang or this 2013 S197), ahead of CD6 redesign.

Ford Design has apparently already completed work on the appearance of the next generation Mustang from what I'm hearing and it's due for what they called final data judgment (total sign-off).

Any of you insiders heard similar? Makes sense because it took about the same amount of time with S550.

Also have heard that the next generation F150 modular frame was going to be starting development in several months and underpin every body on frame redesign after 2026, including Ranger and Bronco by 2030. Apparently the new 2021 has a 5-6 year run, with a refresh for 2024.

While the Mustang moves to CD6 for 2027.

Timing wise, that would make sense. If it's still launching in 2022 as a '23MY, I'd expect to see the first prototypes early next year (calendar year 2021). As it appears S650 will be a heavily modified S550, it will likely be able to hide in plane sight, at least initially. They could start testing drivetrain changes in un-camo'd S550s.

So you are saying that September 2021 is when s550 ends and Flatrock gets retooled for s650..?

No, that'd be late 2022 (calendar year) that S550 production ends and S650 starts production as a '23MY. Certainly September is the usual cutover.....although this year (or rather next!) its being pushed out to January.

In terms of model years it's 2021 to 2022. The S550 is not going on beyond 2022.

So S650 is basically a 4 year transitional in between generation before we go into the all new CD6 platform? I never realized that. Sounds quite cost ineffective if you ask me.

This info fits with what was reported here:
https://www.motorauthority.com/news...rid-reportedly-not-coming-until-2023-redesign

"As for the redesigned Mustang, it was confirmed in February via a job ad listing to be arriving in 2022 as a 2023 model. It's code-named the S650 (the current Mustang is the S550) and could end up based on the current Mustang's bespoke D2C platform, or a version of the modular CD6 platform that debuted in the 2020 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs.
Ford in 2018 announced its future lineup would migrate to five highly modular platforms, meaning there'd be no room for bespoke platforms like the D2C, though there's speculation that Ford might wait until the eighth-generation Mustang, the S650's successor, due sometime in the second half of the decade to finally drop the D2C platform.

I suppose that 2022 could be the beginning Gen7, that would be consistent with the introduction of the Mach 1 in 2004, and introduction of the S197 in 2005...
However Designing and development is one thing, tooling is another. I know of cars which went through the development and design stage to only be given the axe and keep the current model. I agree with Ericc B, it seems odd to release a car for 4 years, unless it is based on an existing shared platform, when the current car seems to be leading the market. In 2023 the Camaro will go bye bye again, so that leaves the Challenger and the Mustang the only two options... The Challenger actually increased production every year from 2008 - 2014 and basically stabilized from 2015-2019 at 63,000, only varying +-3000 each year since.

Every year they keep a model going saves millions in new tooling.

that’s probably why they save so much with the power dollars lol... the Challenger has had the same Platform for 12 years.

I believe the s650 is 2024...

So what are we thinking in terms of engine for this gen would it be a gen 4 coyote or something entirely different for a V8. Assuming there still is one of course.

2.7EB v6 replaces the 2.3EB 4 banger. A special EV package drives the front wheels for a cheap-man's partial 'quattro'. The Coyote3 continues unchanged.

The above is pure speculation.

I think the V8 as we know it is safe in the US. There will also be a third, hybrid, power train. Could be a V6 and/or a V8. Either sounds exciting.
