At 1000whp the 3" collector is fine. When going for 1200-1400whp as @turnswrench is headed towards with a built engine, you need bigger.Anyone tested 3.5 collectors with full 3.5 exhaust vs 3.5 collectors with 3.0 exhaust at 1khp? Can't imagine there would be a notable difference.
Keep in mind it takes power to spin the blower also. With my car making 1300whp its probably losing 150hp to drive the blower and another 150hp through the drivetrain. The engine is pumping 1600hp worth of air and needs the headers sized to that number, not the whp.
If you can get the exhaust gas out fast enough the engine lowers boost by a good amount. Once the horsepower gets towards the 1500hp range, it's all fender exit, hood exit, zoomies, ect.
