Ah, those bat-shit crazy Californians... An activist group in San Diego wants to ban the sale of cars priced over $50k:

This would seem to affect Shelby GT350's and GT500's, and even a nicely optioned Mustang GT. Obviously theres the loophole of buying outside of San Diego and bringing it in, but with a 2.5% penalty.

I'm totally behind sane, rational efforts to fight global warming and save our planet. After all, it's the only planet we have, so it would be a really good idea to not kill the planet, and ourselves in the process. But this isn't going to do it, and is just ridiculous.

I don't live in California, and have no idea if this actually has any chance of passing. In much of the country, it would seem to not stand much of a chance. If nothing else, it's funny.

Sounds about right for the times...did you know Illinois is trying to ban self service gas pumping for those very cars and some less costly?

With California taxes, that is every car, right?

ok, that's just goofy considering many cars over 50k have good gas mileage. I like how in typical government CYA they exclude government vehicles. I'm all for minimizing climate change as well but lets tax the people while allowing the government an easy exclusion, really?!

I moved from New Jersey two and a half years ago. No self serve in NJ, anywhere. They want to save the jobs of the gas attendants.

Because it is not about pollution or saving gas it is about social justice. If everyone can't have a ferarri, no one should have a ferrari.

Ferrari? How about a F150. Or a Cadillac? This is just plain stupid, period.
Ok, I was using ferarri as an example, but you are right.

Never put it past Commifornia to pass a ridiculous law like this, I don't think it will pass but if it did I wouldn't be surprised.

Nobody is gonna tell me how and what to do with my money. If I want a 100k car then I'll earn the money and buy the damn thing.

It's not the state (although it wouldn't surprise me), it's the city of San Diego. I don't even know how it could work. Aren't cars in California registered to the state. Couldn't you just buy it in L.A. and drive it to San Diego?

Regardless of how hard you work if the ban actually went into effect and you went to buy a 100k car in San Diego you wouldn't be allowed too.

I just think the entire idea of banning cars in a within a certain price range is ludicrous. I cannot see this passing, ever.

Exactly, it's not like a Tony Stark arc reactor car is gonna be cheap. And even if it was, the super limited exotic unicorn batman edition might be what I want and it'll cost more for sure. The people coming up with this trash need to be removed from decision making roles.
