1min read
Good morning all
I roadcourse my 10speed
After having hesitation for months at 240 (i have done another post recently)
Situation dropped and i started to have issue around 225 .
With eventually seared clutches and the dealership swapped the trans .
Installing now a bigger cooler (see pictures)
However i read somewhere 10r80 has a thermostat that opens around 200f.
I also found it out with the new cooler cause it wasn't warm till 200f then suddenly fluid came in .
QUESTION
DO YOU KNOW IF THE THERMOSTAT IS MECHANICAL OR ELETTRONIC?

I want to understand if there is a chance to tune the opening.
Please let me know!
Alex

Is there room to install a 7” or 8” electric pusher fan? That is going to give you even better results if you can mount it directly onto the new trans cooler.

SPAL makes excellent compact fans and you can get their fan controllers - set the controller to the desired on/off temps.

The cooler is very close to the AC condenser .Technically i could move it more anteriorly to have the space needed for putting a fan .
But in my opinion this is not necessary for 2 reasons
1. Fan works at lower speed where we dont overheat especially now that I have direct air flow (is in front of everything .)
2 .The radiator fans when activated produced a good amount of air flow .anyway .

In most of race car they dont even put fan cause fan can stop air flows .

My main issue is keaking from one tube now ...
Trying to fix it
Thanks for the input!

Setrab 25row.
I also ducted all the coolers and radiator.
Last
I ve created a waterspray system composed by 5 nozzle. 2 on radiator 1 on trans cooler (see pic) 2 on the oil cooler.
Ducting/sealing reduced a lot the temps.
And with Spraying .. So far no more problems.
212f max on trans temp
260f oil
220f CHT

Thermostat. Itnis a bodyvalve. Inknownsomeone in arizona replaced the bodyvalve of the 6r80 with like a plus tonhave continous flow to the cooler. Unfortunately I'm not from there so i cant bring myncar there. I still believe this will definetely nfix all the issues.
But sonfar my solution works. Very very well

Im general
The cooler the better
That is why I was thinking to remove the bobyvalve.
But 212 f is absolutely fine. My problem came around 245f. And then progressed to a lower temp.
If younput an oil cooler don't put it on the higher grille. Otherwose you block air flow to the trans cooler

Wow!!! Mine takes like 25 minutes just to get up to 140-150 degrees. Even after a few pulls.

One pull is 10sec... Not enough.
Roadcourse is 5 session of 20-25mins higher than 6000rpm. :)
