So I’ve owned this car for a few days shy of 5 years now and I just got this message and the car wouldn’t start. First time ever happening, finally decided to move the steering wheel and it started but still seems weird. Don’t know why it happened in the first place?

That's a very, very common thing with all vehicles. It shouldn't be surprising to you.

well gee Sherlock I understand that but with almost 5 years of ownership it’s never happened before with this car. Seemed odd that the steering wheel even locked

Well.......o.k.

It may seem odd, but it's perfectly normal.

A few times. Including in my 2005, 2012 and 2016. You just park the car with the steering wheel turned, shut the ignition off, and the column locks. Just like older cars.

Maybe it's more apt to happen with people that park in busy areas, and in spots where they have to pull in at an angle.

If you turn wheel all the way to either side and shut car down sometimes the deadbolt lock gets stuck.solution is just jiggle wheel and it comes loose, especially if you use an ignition key.

I was under the impression that only S550’s that had the additional security package had the locking steering column... ?

Um, cars five years old, batteries, in general, last five years. A loss in voltage may cause a Main Bus Under Volt.

Also, most cars with moving steering columns/wheels tend to cause a 'Cutoff Switch' interruption.

That or she's tired and doesn't wanna go up to the Circle K. or I'm drunk.

it was probably this. Although I’m pretty sure I’ve shut the car down with the wheels turned before lol

or could have also been related to getting a new battery.

but yea, I’ve had it happen in other vehicles before so I’m sure it’s just it’s normal operation. I assume it’s that way so the power steering doesn’t damage the steering column once the system is powered by the engine

was just weird and took me by surprise

This has never happened in my s550 but has happened in older cars. Key won't turn until I moved the wheel.

It's kind of surprising to see on a newer car.

The only other warning i've seen was "Oil too low" or something but this was literally right after I turned the car off and wanted to turn the car back on again

I got that once along with random messages about it not being able to find the key. I assumed its the normal wheel lock that every car I've had before had but maybe its part of the security package for these? I know I replaced my battery with a napper gold and I never saw them again.
