Reading through the new 2020 GT500 Owner's Supplement, going through Maintenance and Fluids. For colder climates, Ford recommends 0W40 meeting their A-spec (WSS-M2C937-A). Would think this would work for the GT350 as well if driven in cold weather. Thoughts?

I always thought it would be a good substitute. My operating temps rarely go above 185 in the winter and that’s in GA. 0w-40 should more than cover that.

Agreed. I wonder what swayed Ford on this?

Just remember that running an oil weight and spec clearly different from what's spec'd for the model is a very legit grounds for warranty denial. You cannot argue back to Ford that since it was ok for the GT500 you figured it'd be fine, or that a bunch of guys on the internet told you to.

Agreed. Just curious as to why Ford ok'd this for the GT500 and not the GT350.

I wouldn't be surprised if ford quietly revises the oil specs for the 2020 or 2021 gt350 owners manual. Manufacturers make revisions like that all the time.

Dumb question. I’ll be driving a 17 with a 19R motor. Could I use 0w-40 in the winter and not upset the warranty Gods?

Winter in Atlanta? As in extreme cold climate? Isn't that like winter in TX?

Wow, thanks for posting this. Big change! I assume this recommendation is backwards compatible through all years?

Also, look right above that regarding the 5w50 oil ... says oil needs to meet WSS-M2C931-C OR API SN requirements. That opens up oils not on the current approved list and is BIG!

Don't worry, I'm sure that the Amsoil crowd will chime in that there is only 1 oil that everyone should use. :cwl:

All of my cars reached operating temp in GA winters except this car. The cooling is too effective. I’ve sat in Atlanta traffic at 170.

Since you have 19 motor I'd say the supplement covers you in black and white to try the 0-40 if you want to. I'm interested to see if your temps rise. Is 191 normal operating temperature or is that just a required temp for the RPM limit to move?

everyone seems to agree that’s where these motors are safe to rev or to put your foot into it, 190.
