We talkn OPG/TG, seatbelts or condoms here?
Either way, the cost of failure is stress and way more money than cost of protection.

I tracked a Whippled 15 and switched to GT350 pan and pump housing. Even w forged OPG, the evidence of wear during high G oil starve events was damning and I was lucky. No way would I road course without TG/OPG.

FORGED TG is $50 FRPP, get TSS OPG , GT350 pump is cheap, GT350 pan is $130 shipped.
You make a really good point regarding stress.
I don’t honestly know that I could enjoy revving a blown engine to 8k on a semi regular basis, always wondering if THIS is going to be the one that kills the gears... is THIS going to be the one that costs me an engine?
Of course, OPG isn’t the only thing that “could” go wrong but when it’s front and centre in your mind as a higher than average probability (vs rod failure for example) it would really take the fun factor out of it.
Each to their own but I prefer to take measures where practical.
Not sure that I’d do it at some of the prices being thrown around here though.

Did Ford use the same OPG/TG in the new 2020 Shelby GT500 as the ones in the 2015-2019 Mustang Gt?

They last a lot longer than most think, But I would definitely just do them now.

Can you afford not to replace them?

I think this sums up my feelings right here

I’ve ordered mine and can do it myself. For me it’s a no brainer. I have the tools and the capability to do it so worth the 240$ on Black Friday. I can also afford a engine if it goes, but would rather spend that on other things.

Just stay n/a and don't worry about it...that's a viable option that I'm gonna stick with. Even though I've seen a couple occasions where n/a E85 tuned '18's have broken opg's and the culprit then appears to have been bouncing off the rev limiter repeatedly. So being greedy trying to chase extra hp up top is where the stress is at, even on an n/a engine.

This is the way I looked at it. Chances are slim that they may fail, but there have been enough people that have broken them that it is a concern. Can I afford to replace the motor should it fail? Yes. Do I want to replace the engine because I did not replace a $300 set of gears? No. A day in the garage and $300 was cheap enough insurance and gives me a little peace of mind.

That's a transposition. The pan is more like $310. Holds more oil but since the windage tray is part of the pan, it's hard to see how it's baffled.
The forged TG can be had for $21. + shipping from ANWB.

so even with the gt350 oil pan you were getting wear on the opg or you switched and the wear stopped?

Would have to search the old posts for pics, but I think the issue was galling seen on stock opg and stock pump/pan. I switched to GT350 pan/pump/TSS opg.
I believe crank deflection from Whipple combined w intermittent starve resulted in 0 margin from tolerance stackup thus OPG “self clearanced” the pump housing leaving burrs and galling as evidence. Repeated occurrences like this are brutal and expecting stock opg to survive long term is prolly not fair.

View attachment 432948 2019 Hellion twin turbo at 825rwhp A10 auto approximately 5k hard miles. I run it in track mode not drag for the easier hit on the tires on the up shifts but it is very aggressive on the down shifts. I was minding my business next to a Porsche who was also minding his own business. As it shifted into what I believe was 6th I got a warning on the dash that said oil pressure lower than expected and a limp mode. I saw it was still making about 40 psi and called for a tow home. I got lucky. Oil/filter are clean. Cams look good. There are two other twin turbo Hellion cars and a whipple gen 3 in the group who all had them done at the time of the install. I’m the only one who didn’t.

Mine happened in 4th gear manual at 6k, I shut it down and towed it. I flushed the motor several times changed OPG and started perfect and ran for about a minute before rod knock started and ended sounding like a freight train. She was done. What RPM did your fail at?

Here was my startup after I replaced OPG, only thing missing was me yelling out Faaaaaaak!! in the end.
