You mean carefully painted like the rest of the car? What a joke. We already know how the paint chips from a big gust of wind.

I wish the painted stripes option was available on the GT350/R's, I would have definitely done it.

Those painted on stripes are not part of the OEM car and are not specific to the VIN.
Hope you didn't overheat your brain figuring that out. :giggle:

Never too late. You can have painted stripes as well done as the GT500s for $2k or less AND not be limited to just a few colors, widths, styles.

Those look pretty good. Definitely a great option if you have a good paint shop and want to paint your base model or CFTP for less than 10k. The GT500 isn’t anticipated to be a collector, so not sure how much OEM or VIN tied stripes would matter in that regard. At any rate, mine for sure won’t be a collector the way I plan on driving it. :like:

Not a professional painter but I’ve hobby painted for years. The original process described could be done, but It just seems like it would be quite the dance to get the car back on the paint line without screwing up the base coat and new stripes as the clear is your protection layer. It could be be done but to my knowledge most base coats will require clear to be applied within a a few hours or the base will need to be scuffed, before clear, or stripes in this example is applied, so scuff before the paint stripes, than scuff again to paint clear. To me it would be easier to clear the car, then pull from the line, scuff the clear, paint stripes then re- clear the panels needed.

Maybe it's a UAW thing. We all know the UAW wont allow a (non union) outsider to work in a union shop. Maybe Ford wants that specialty work done by certain people and the only way around it is take it off site. The more I read about this the more it makes sense.

Stev: We hear ya but the bottom line is, people have seen the results of the process already and the reports are a hundred percent positive. So, whatever the problems might have been in theory, it would seem that Ford and Penske have figured out how to do it perfectly.

Yes and that appears to be custom paint off site.

Forgive me, Tom, but my failing old brain isn't sure what you meant.
The chassis will be taken off site to a location near flat rock after initial color. It will then be prepped and the stripes will be painted on. Something tells me that (as indicated) that additional work will be required to do this job right. There is no way you are going to see a shortcut on a $10,000 painted on stripe option, so methinks it may or may not get some extra special attention.

They are, in essence, contracting out the painted on stripes to an outside unit because????

I think anyone who got the special $10k stripes will end up with an exceptional product.

But what do I know?

Oh, and it wouldn't shock me if penske did the clear coat as well.

If I was doing it, that's the way I would do it...... send it off and finish it thru clear coat.
