Oil vapor in the combustion chamber will reduce the effective octane of the fuel. So - your GT500 won't make as much power as it could. And IMO if you are a GT500 buyer you want all of those 760 ponies!

I agree with the oil mist affecting octane and decreasing timing which decreases power, but to me it also about the oil not making its way to the intercooler fins. This clogs the fins, decreasing its ability to cool the intake air, increasing the chance of heat soak and ultimately reducing power. Oil in the intercooler fins is no bueno.

After the oil that's collected cools down it returns to its original liquid state, then drains back into the engine. What people have seen built ups in catch cans that looks like froth is due to the way in which the catch can itself is adding air to the mix. A properly designed catch will simply return oil vapor back to oil and not be detrimental to the engine. I have used MANY aftermarket catch cans, but I do believe there is nobody better to design one for this motor better than the Ford engineers. I will use this oil catch setup over ANY aftermarket catch can all day long.

And you certainly don’t want that gunk in the intercooler or supercharger. Its pretty nasty to try to clean on the ‘07-‘14 GT500s. Can’t imagine what it’s like with the the new arrangement.
Draining back into the engine isn’t the greatest approach, but I’m OK with that.

BTW: Also checked with my son who works in Service at a big Ford dealer. He said the service manuals for the GT500 aren’t out yet, so no one knows what the parts numbers are (and therefore if the valve covers are the same for the Base and CFTP). Supposed to be released on 1 Oct.

Since the separator does not come installed from the factory, the valve cover would have the return hole plugged.

Exactly. If it has the hole at all.... That’s the question at hand.
I have been reviewing various engine pictures available from CFTPs and Base GT500s and can’t see where the return line goes into the valve cover. And the new separator doesn’t have instructions available yet.
If anyone has a good pix with the separator installed or a good pix of the valve cover without a separator, please provide.

Here is a picture of the 2020 GT500 engine on a test stand. I think the plug circled in red is the separator return line plugged hole.

I wonder if Ford was using 2019 Voodoo GT350 valve covers on the early engines? This would explain the lack of a plugged hole.

I think it there, just under the cam cover which is black so it covers the silver bolt. Maybe there’s a knock out hole in the cam cover.

Yup, hoping this is an example of the actual engines going into all the cars and the test mules have GT350 covers.
