I just purchased 2 of the silver MR136’s for $72.xx each! Motegi says they’re 23ish pounds. Time for some 275/40 17 R’s (stock tune) and see if I can break into the 11’s

I just got them yesterday, and plan to put a 275 40 17 radial on them while I’m on a stock tune. No pics on the car yet

Can't argue with them for the price, spend a lot closer to $2k for a pair of racestars with tyres. Go ET street R in 305/45r17 and don't look back, nothing else hooks as well
It's time for me to order times. Still going back and forth between 275/40 and 305/45/17s. You don't think there will be any loss with the taller tire? They are closer to the stock size than the 275s. Those are much shorter (more gear).

Hard for me to say without testing both. With the weight drop and gearing advantage the 275s certainly feel more lively by the butt dyno, I went with them to drop my 60'.

Unfortunately last time out I only did 3 runs, first was shit and I spun a lot on the other two (through 1-2 and 2-3 shifts). Still ran 11.55 both runs, with a best of 123.83mph, up from 123.10 with stock wheels and 305/35 MTs.

Waiting on a new axle, then I will figure out the right pressures/heat and get these hooking. There's definitely a lower 11 in it if I can get it right.

I went 275’s because that should have me around 7000+ rpms throughly the traps in 6th.

Just test fitting the MR136 wheels and the high points on the brake calipers run the inner barrel of the wheel. It will need a 1/16” five or take to clear.

I spent a few hours reading drag wheel/tire threads today. Some people say the 99-04 17x9.5 wheels will fit and others say they rub. I've been looking at those years first because a lot of the wheels are inexpensive. My calipers are painted so I really don't want to grind them down then paint them again. There are some inexpensive wheels listed for the S550 so I might go with one of them.

As for tires, I'll probably decide when I order. I'd say at least 85-90% of people who have posted in different threads went with 305s. I did some quick math. The 26.1" tires are 5% shorter than stock (27.3") so my 3:31 gears would be about a 3:50 ratio. 305s are 2% taller (they look taller than that). That would cut the gear down to about 3:24. I don't get into full boost until about 3500 RPMs so I think either size will work fine. Most of my 60' times on street tires have been in the 1.90-2.00 range. There have been a couple high 1.80s but nothing consistent. I'd hope to shave a couple tenths off with a better 60'. I'm also going to put the stock 18s back on the front for the track. Will save some weight and rolling resistance. One other upgrade is the car will be running on E30 so I'd like to turn my recent best of 12.69 into a low 12.

I dremeled the rear calipers over the weekend to clear the MR136’s. I ended up taking off about 3/32” on the high points of the caliper in line with the hub face axis. I spun the wheels with the car in the air and it clears. It’s tight but there’s daylight. Next up is to paint the calipers race red to match the car.
