The C8 is a “game changer”? Really? 495hp is considered “game changing”?

I’m not a “Chevy” guy, but yes, the C8 is a game changer. America’s first mass produced mid engine sports car. That plus a base price that is half of its competition. Sure they could have advertised 500+ HP, but most base buyers will find it more than enough. For those who don’t, there will be the Z06.

If I hit the lottery there will be a C8 in my garage.

No the fact that it is a mid engine car that is as fast as a half million dollar Ford GT for well under 6 figures (like the price of a GT350) is "game changing".

I like the C8 but it's way out of my price range. I'll buy the car that I like regardless of the brand as long as it's a good car with no issues. I bought 2 brand new cars recently in the last 2 years- a 2017 Camaro RS with automatic 8 speed and a 2018 Mustang GT, manual 6 speed. Both had major issues- that developed after only 2 or 3K miles. I thought I would never buy GM again....but.....My two current cars I bought used with extremely low miles- a 2018 VW GTI and a 2016 Camaro LT, V6, M6. Took test drives in each to listen for problems- none. I went back to GM as I loved my 2017 Camaro but the transmission was garbage with the shuddering- but loved the V6 engine. My GT engine rattled, pinged and knocked at idle, was not going to live with it. So I cannot say I won't buy Ford or GM again- except I won't ever buy anything with a Coyote Ford engine or a GM with the 8 speed automatic. My 2 current cars have been great- love them both.

Im not convinced about the looks of the C8. Going mid engine reduces much of the appeal of a vette. However I agree at American prices its going to be a bargain. I assume at those prices the build quality will be crap as will the interior. At export pricing it becomes less attractive as it will be pitched against the ubiquitous 911 carerra.

For the same money you could always get your push rod chevy kicks in a mid engined sports car from another manufacturer. Behold the Ultima GTR

Alex makes some good points about the C8 in this video. Hopefully it presses Ford to match or exceed GMs offering to remain competitive for market share.

Hardly the same price. You have to import it without an engine. When it is done:

Ultima GTR

Specifications
PRICE AS TESTED: $152,150 (base price: $138,300)

ENGINE TYPE: pushrod 16-valve V-8, aluminum block and heads, GM engine-control system with port fuel injection

Displacement: 346 cu in, 5663cc
Power (SAE net): 345 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 350 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

TRANSMISSION: 5-speed manual

DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 100.0 in Length: 162.0 in
Curb weight: 2314 lb

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 3.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 8.4 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 26.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 3.9 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 11.9 sec @ 117 mph
Top speed (redline limited): 157 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 199 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.98 g

and you end up with pretty much the same performance minus the comfort.

First year model, I'll let the rich old people work out the kinks. That's if I can even fit in one... The hype is huge and I'm proud that GM threw this in because now Ford and Dodge probably crapped their pants.

It’s a good car but I think people are going overboard too. The C7 is a really good car but they aren’t selling. Maybe people forgot it exists?

I can't deny the performance of the new C8. But it looks a bastard child of a Ferrari and an NSX. And I can't be seen in something that looks like a supercar. That's just not me. The Mustang is more me but I can see why people are ogling over the C8. That's a heck of a machine. Too bad it still has the pushrods though.

Now it's as fast as a Ford GT? Wow, the hype is strong! You realize the C8 is quite a bit heavier and has ~150 less HP? Not sure how it becomes faster than the Ford GT. Is it the all season tires that make it so fast?

I agree people are going overboard.

Frankly I would love to have one if they had a manual transmission. I also wish they were about 500 lbs lighter. Or at least 300. For a mid engine all aluminum car with a tiny cabin, this thing is a PORKER.

Maybe the C9 will have better features and be set up more sporty. I was really thrilled when I first heard the announcement, but after thinking for a few days I think it might be another generation of Corvette to bypass.

Nice try at deflection. I don't recall anybody but you putting 495HP and game changer in the same sentence. C8 also has 4 wheels so that means it can't be a game changer.

It's not always about how many HP.

The shift from front engine to mid engine is a better definition of game changer than adding forced induction to turn a GT into a GT500 or an SS Camaro into a ZL1 ever was.

Yup GM changed the game, now they're in the mid engine performance field and skies the limit.
Put that LT5 motor in a C8 and DCT and that thing will eat. It will cost money, but people will still buy it. GM's benchmark should be the 720s. a Supercar that can keep up with 1000cc Superbikes.
