GT 350 just got crushed by the C8

Hard to see paying $60K for a 350 when you can buy a C8 for the same. The 10K difference to move up to the GT 500 might make sense given the extra 265hp. The C8 and GT500 both seem to be bargains for what you get but the 350 and ZL1 just make no sense anymore.

Considering the C8 is 15-16k cheaper than a GT500 and even being down 265 hp it's still pretty damn close 0-60, likely has a higher top end and will absolutely eat both the GT350 and gt500s lunch around a road course..... Dodge, Ford and countless other manufacturers who have mainstream performance cars priced above 60k just got put on notice.

I humbly diagree... It all depends on what you want in order to satisfy your vehicular thirst.
The C8 is mid-engine and will corner better, the C8 is faster from 0-60, and the C8 is a true 2-seater sports car.
My current vehicle handles better than the Shelby GT350, is quicker than the Shelby GT350 from 0-60, and is a true 2-seater sports car... Yet I still ordered a 2019 Shelby GT350. I am WAY more excited about getting the Shelby, than I was waiting for delivery for my better handling, quicker 2 seater.

Sure makes perfect sense don't spend $10K more for a version with a couple hundred more hp and get a GT 500 or spend about the same and get a super car. I get it the manual makes it all worth it. Time and the numbers will tell.

The new corvette probably won’t hurt ford very much in terms of sales at least not at the beginning I’m sure it’ll take time for people who like the conventional front engine rear wheel drive to start really looking at a midengine American v8.

Having said that I would like to see ford step it up. Sad thing is ford doesn’t have a car that could compete with the price point. The GT is way too pricey so it leaves the mustang as the only performance choice to compete with the corvette. Only way to stay competitive now in terms of bang for the buck is awd and serious investment in carbon fiber and other lightweight composites. Even if not to compete with the corvette the Camaro will eventually get that LT2 engine so ford has to start thinking of options. Although they won’t lose sales to the Camaro anyways but for bragging rights at the very least.

I have had both a C4 and C5 Corvette, was "between Vettes" getting kids through college during the C6 years. The C7 styling never clicked with me. I am still not in love with the all of the C8 styling, but as an engineer, the "tech for the buck" is very impressive. I could fall back to the dark side after the new model year shakeout, and see what is coming next

The $60K C8 is a rental car. Albeit a cool mid-engine rental car.

The fast one is the Z51 which is going to be at least $66K and likely $70K+ that will maybe be as fast or a little faster than a 2019 GT350 (which is a lot faster than the 15-18 GT350s; which were similar to C7 Z51s in terms of lap times).

Well, the GT350 still sounds amaaaazing, and optioned with magnaride, I bet it will be the cheaper of the two.

Lets be real, who actually uses the back seats on a Mustang? I mean my dogs use it, but I wouldn't put a person back there.

The main thing I see the Mustangs have that is a bit awkward on the C8 is the trunk situation. I bet it has some good space, but is it usable space. I can do some real damage at IKEA with an S550.

I agree, other manufacturers with ~$60k-80k cars just got put on notice. The world is different now, and we're living in the future.

I have a feeling the high end GT's are going to be in trouble with this car. It may have a base model with only 490HP, but the car is extremely lightweight compared to a Coyote Mustang of any flavor (I heard sub 3,500lbs), and has a 0-60 that will make the GT350 look like a freight train. Also, you can bet the new C8 base will probably give the GT500 a real hard time on the track, simply because of it's obvious increase in handling. Mid engined cars are no joke. Just look at how the Cayman does against cars that have 200HP more. Those C8 test vids at Nurburgring were just a taste. That's where it will shine. Most C7's like the Z06 can probably give a GT500 a run for its money on a track. For the money, the C8 will make a joke out of it.

Take a base C8, and strap on a blower. Nothing Ford has will touch it, unless you go full on GT for $400g's.
