So I've been looking for a solution for my 3" exhaust with Kooks 1 7/8 long tubes no cats, I don't want it loud. Currently have the Borla 60561 resonator but it has 2.5" outlet and necked down even more to 2.25" inlet and it does a bang up job of lowering the sound levels. I thought maybe the Magnaflow 3" true X resonator might work instead. Space is limited in that area where the resonator fits especially depth. The Borla fits and is the smallest at 4" depth and 10" wide but inlet outlets are to dam small for 3" exhaust and not optimal for 800 hundo wheel HP cars.

I ordered the Magnaflow 12599 true 3" system and they list it at 5" depth by 11" wide which is bigger than the Borla, but thought maybe could get it to fit up there without scraping the ground. Well I got it today and measurement from what Magnaflow lists and actual are way off. Both width and depth were 1" more when I measure it. 6" depth and 12" wide, no way this sucker is gonna fit, it's huge! I've tried the single rube resonators and they just don't have the packing around them to reduce the sound like a 2 inlet outlet case design does.

Here are some pics of the 12599 measurements.

I've got these in my Wish list. It's what I could find dimensionally smallest. Was going to go after the H/X, before the diff.
What are you referring to as these?

Yup...I've used similar single resonators and they don't do much for volume, maybe cut a little for rasp. The problem with the single tubes is that they are 3" ID and 4" OD case so only 1" packing around doesn't do a lot to tame the exhaust volume level.
Good to know. I was on the fence. Appreciate the insight/experience.

Get a mid muffler for the solo Mach xv. That is what I run and it is pretty mellow for no cats. I’m sure it is pricey though.

FWIW, we made 885 through the Borla Resonator. We just chopped off the 2.25" inlet and welded it direct to the flex pipes so its 2.5 from mid pipes out, Kept factory active exhaust as well.

Thanks man for the input, and thats my backup plan to take out that 2.25" section. Just would like to have a total 3" system. BORLA make us a 3" resonator for the love of god.

That sucks man. Those illustrations I showed you the other day were direct from magnaflow.

I know even the box has the part number and dimensions that conflict with my measurements.

Isn’t that the borla 60661?

I ended up doing the job myself. I cut off the 2 1/4" chock down off my 3" Kooks mid pipes and welded on 3" extensions and used the H section from my MBRP exhaust. I used the single tube 3" R1017 MBRP long resonator tubes 22" body instead of a case design. The tone is really deep, and not to loud at idle and cruising, but as soon as some throttle and loud hit, it's very deep and loud. I also used 3" TORCA style clamps on both ends of the H and resonators so it drops in and out easily.

I had tried the magnaflow 3 inch y-pipe mid muffler and although it quieted the catless headers down quite a bit, the ground clearance sucked and I would bottom out leaving the parking garage at work amongst other places. Ended up doing a custom 3 inch H-pipe, but back to being too loud/raspy again. Not nearly as raspy as with the previous x-pipe, but still more than I'd prefer. I'll have to give those resonators a try.
