I have a '19 GT Premium. All Magnetic, no black roof. Changed the badge from red to black, as well as the pony at the grill. Stock wheels ( black) which I like. To liven it up I was thinking of changing the calipers to red.
As far as I can see there are 3 ways;
- painting the existing
- adding covers over the existing
- buying red ones and storing the originals.
With only 3000 miles it seems a waste of $ to shelve the originals. I've heard different opinions re the covers and heat build up. I'm not a racer but I'd hate to have excess heat warp anything. I could see myself painting the originals, but what do you think of buying the covers ( or maybe just a front and rear), putting them on temporarily, and see if I like the look?
If I like the look, which way to go? Are the covers expensive? Does Ford make them?
Thanx in advance

The covers seem to be quite expensive, $250 for a set of 4.

It's only $10 for a can of caliper spray paint.

I painted the calipers on my acura a few years ago, when I sold that car a year later they were still looking good. It's not a difficult job, you just gotta use a lot of tape and newspaper to cover up everything else.

I used the G2 Caliper paint. I went with blue as my secondary color. The G2 Kit came out smurf like blue so I used some Duplicolor Blue Metallic spray paint over that and I like it. Not as fresh as if I would have powder coated them but still nice.

It took me about ten hours worth of work over two days and most of that was masking and covering the car.

I also changed the point in the 5.0 emblems to blue and bought metallic Brembo stickers from Anchor Room. I will post a pic later from my phone.

One with just the G2 and then obviously the final look after Duplicolor.

I think the G2 gets that smurf color blue because of the black paint originally on the calipers. If I did it again I’d try laying down a white primer first before putting the G2 Blue on.

You can easily paint them on the car, and there is nothing wrong with that if you mask it right. The big thing is preping the surface. Given how low miles your calipers are there should be little to clean, but regardless CLEAN them good or it will not last. It is much harder to do this while on the car.

Me personally, I got a second set of calipers base GT 4 piston calipers for $50 to dissassemble, sandblast and powder-coat, not sure what color yet but I am thinking just red. I do my own powder-coating so it is a bit easier for me to go this route. I did gloss black calipers for a LS swap BMW project of mine.

I really wanted the Brembo brakes so I replaced my 4 piston GT brakes, which I was originally planning to paint, with a set of the red 6 piston Bullitt Brembos, but I did paint the rear calipers with the G2 kit and they turned out great.

Painted mine with VHT caliper paint... turned out great. A lot of work, but it's cheap.
Used a dremel to grind down all the casting marks on the rear calipers to make them look cleaner.

Also wrapped the face of my wheel with black vinyl, blacked out my badges, and tinted the reflector on the headlights.

Happy with the results!

Years ago Cadillac, with their 72-76 Eldorados, color coded the hubcaps to match the color of the car. What would happen if Ford ( or anyone else) color coded the caliper covers to the color of each particular car? Beside the extra cost,?
