Part number for 2017 GT350R oil filter assembly

The owners manual states to use only part # FL-2062 but when I go to the Ford dealership they are showing a different part number. Can anyone here state with authority what the part number is?

2019 manual calls for FL2087.

I ordered a 2062 also so I wouldn't be stuck while doing the first oil change... if it ever shows up

Considering the astronomical odds that the guy at the dealer doesn't know what he's talking about...if the owners manual says 2062, then it's 2062. The 2062 is the cartridge style. Ford was pretty good about putting the correct owners manual in the car when they swapped filter style in early '17 sometime. Easy enough to fix OP...how about go look at your oil filter. If it's a black cartridge style, then it's the 2062. If it's a spin on, then it's the other one.

That's odd the '19 calls out a completely different number? A real quick google search did not uncover any pics of it. Wonder what changed?

normally, i'd agree, but the 2019 manual # is cartridge as well... since the engine didn't change, I'm wondering if ford is pushing a diff filter to all the 5.2's now for some reason...

Here's the answer to my question. The 2017 model year began with the old style oil filter in the fall of 2016. After numerous problems with the torque being not properly adjusted, after the winter break they came back in calendar year 2017 with a cartridge style insert for the oil filter. That was the problem in finding the correct part number. New part number is # FL-2062, not what was recommended in the 2017 owners manual.

I think you may have accidentally contradicted yourself, and looked like you answered a question that didn't need an answer (you already had the answer) -- and this statement is a little misleading/incorrect. They updated the owners manual when they swapped filter style mid-production '17 so that the correct filter is referenced. You even stated yourself that the '17 manual called for a 2062. I know my '17 manual calls for a 2062, which is the correct, cartridge style filter. It sounds like your manual called for the correct filter, which was the correct one, but you let the guy at the dealer lead you astray...which confirms my very first statement from above, LOL.

It's not like there isn't a proliferation of part numbers for GT350 oil filters. From the Owner's Supplements that I've collected from the Ford Owner's site:

2015/2016 supplement - FL2069ST spin-on
2017 supplement - FL2069ST spin-on is specified in Versions 1 and 3 of the 2017 Supplement. It's only Version 2 that shows the FL2062 cartridge filter that was in late production cars that year.
2018 supplement - FL2062 cartridge is specified in Versions 1 and 2 of the 2018 Supplement
2019 supplement - FL2087 cartridge is specified in Version 1 of the supplement. V2 is not up yet.

Anyone have anymore information on this? Just got my car, went to the dealer yesterday and was quoted $40 for the filter. Something seemed odd to me (besides the jacked up dealer price) so I told him to hold off. Ordered the FL2062 off AutoNation Ford @ $6 each, but then later got an email saying the part was superseded/upgraded for the 2019 GT350/GT500 with the FL2087 @ $18 and asked if I wanted to go that route.

I'm unable to find information on the actual difference so.. Someone should be investigating what the change to the filter design is lol

What additional info do you want or need that wasn’t covered here? If you can get a 2062, get it and use it. Otherwise the 2087 is the correct filter. Or get an Amsoil EA15K43. That’s really all there is to it. If you’re looking for technical specs between the two filters, the support inside the filter is different, the media may be different; it’s just an update/redesign. Not much you can really do about it since the 2062’s are going away. Don’t overthink it.

Yea, I was hoping someone cut the two up and compared internals for potential changes. Also, whether or not this new filter needs to be used for warranty reasons etc.

Doesn't seem like the FL2062 is hard to get and is significantly cheaper. I'm more inclined to believe there must be some kind of important change/update to the FL2087.

I went with the new Amsoil Ea 15K 43 for my 2018. It's not a daily, will get an annual change like my GT500. Says good for 15,000 miles which I won't get even half in a year.

I know it's a late reply. I just went through the same issue, called Ford Performance to confirm FL-2087 is the upgrade for FL-2062, yes it is. Seems the filter paper is thicker than the older version filter. Now Ford has updated the dealer and parts catalog to show FL-2087 as the only recommended filter for 2017 and upwards V8 5.2L engines.
