Probably because most of these guys driving them are wearing Birkenstock's with socks on instead of shoes you can actually get a proper pedal feel for. I know one thing for sure, late model Vette owners tend to be the snootiest people at the car shows I go to, and they act like they look down on Mustangs...with that said, the last time I had a Vette try me ('16 Auto owned by a guy I know here in my small town) I ate him up so bad he gave me a nasty look as he did a ricer fly by when I let off at 120 and finally let him by me. I love shattering their over confidence and arrogance out on the road. My Mustang loves Corvettes, they taste like chicken...LOL!

Those Corvette photos are misleading, the main structure is hydroformed aluminum box sections. The drivers are probably the main cause of the poor safety numbers.

No offense, but how stupid... any car crash at high speed has a decent chance you die. What do you expect when such a great force(object) hits something that makes it come to a stop in a matter of seconds(and feet).

With cars, speed is deadly because people lose control. With SUVs and trucks, the chance of a rollover is the deadly factor. Lose-lose situation.

The first comment in the article is right on: it's the driver - i.e., the buying demographic - not the car, at least in terms of performance vehicles.

Years ago there was a study about car color as a factor of traffic stops/tickets, you know, the old "Cops stop red cars more ..." thinking. Based on this study, which did some psychological analysis, it wasn't that red cars get stopped more, it was that people who buy red cars tend to fall into a certain "driver type".

I think it's the rise of performance [relative to the cost], especially in the last few years where there's some crazy options available (and a ton of ridiculously high performance cars in the used market). I mean, you can pretty easily get a loan on a number of cars that are 650-797 HP, that's crazy.

When I called around for insurance quotes the Vette was cheaper than all 3 muscle cars. Significantly. Odd youd think itd be higher.

My assumption would be that most of the people who can afford a Corvette tend to be people who make good decisions. Doing crazy things in traffic is a pretty bad decision. And then the other thing is many people leave the Corvette in the garage most of the time. They don't treat it like a "normal" car.

But I can understand that the Corvette is light and low to the ground. The higher up and heavier vehicles tend to always "win" in crashes. So, even if it's the other person's fault it still sucks to be in the smaller, lower car.

We are at about 1967-ish with performance cars. We are not far from 1974-ish performance cars.

These articles are going to start to hit. Insurance will go up. Government will get involved. Gas may or may not go up. And we will be buying detuned 300 HP Hellcats in no time.

History doesn't get re-worked it repeats itself. As these cars get more and more power there is going to be more and more wrecks. Either insurance or Government will step in sooner or later.

Some concerns of the new Corvette release is the liability of what gonna happen when Bob the accountant buys basically a race car and kills himself. Don't be surprised if they won't sell without waivers and proof of proper training.

One reason people crash is that you need a lot of speed to get tires to break, but once they do, oooh. If I had one I would consider running all season tires so you could feel the brake
