BUT, the 350 front is very functional and purposeful.

In fact the R was even slightly differentiated from the base with less grill opening for better slip.

People buying these cars based on looks is defeating the point. I mean yes, we’re not going to be caught in ugly cars that perform super well.

So, maybe the 350 doesn’t look (in your eyes) to have a purpose, it very much does.
Agreed, between the ducting for the coolers, the air vents to funnel air through the wheel wells or integrated brake ducts. Took the front bumper off my 350 and couldn't believe all the functional venting.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you right there, and this is just my personal opinion, but those large straight lines on the outside edges of the bumper make me think bulldozer instead of sports car. I've made plenty of posts in this forum about the functional purposes of this design on the GT500, but aesthetically it's just not my cup of tea. I prefer the GT350 design much more which is one of the reasons why I bought one instead of stretching my budget and waiting for the GT500.

You do realize that you are complaining about performance aerodynamics and racing. Not a sleek, beautiful looking every-day Mustang, freshly washed waiting for a non-aggressive dinner/date.

Look at every Circuit with such aero & canards... then tell us you don't appreciate/understand performance on 140mph sweeper on the Nurb..

That design is there for a reason, and those who see it (into it), see how mean & angry the GT500 has become.

I don’t know what that poster is smoking. I think all the aero is gorgeous. I’m used to seeing real race cars though

I respect the aero. My issue isn't with any of the actual functional aero bits like the splitter fences, larger grill openings, etc.... In fact I'm probably one of the few who actually approves of the GT4 wing, it's just that I believe that they could have done a better job on the design of the non-aero elements here like the black center bar and the sides of the front bumper. Just stating my personal preference on the design of those non-functional elements.

For example, the new McLaren Senna is an aerodynamic masterpiece, but to me it's uglier than P1 that produces less downforce and will turn slower lap times. Sure I respect the fact that the aero is there for a reason, but my personal preference is for a car that mixes function and form better.

I just don't understand why we can't have a car that has great aero blended with good looks. Saying "BuT iT's FuNcTiOnAl" is not an excuse for a hideous design. You know what else is a super functional design? The Prius... and that's one of the ugliest cars on the road right now.

Yet, one of the most beautiful cars on the road right now is the Ferrari 488 Pista... you can't tell me it isn't functional, but it sure is gorgeous

Functional or NOT I like the GT500 nose. Pretty simple for me.

I like to disassemble things.
For a long time I saw the GT350/R as the pinnacle. Curic absolutely crushed it with his design. I readily admit that I wasn't fond of the GT500's front end for some time. I don't know if it's because I have a hard time letting go as it took seeing the new look over and over before I finally started to accept and understand what the designers had in mind. Now, I love it and when I look back I see the GT350/R as a little bland whereas I never did before. There is a small sense of guilt - I can't lie. But once it clicks you see things differently. Your perspective changes as it understands and adapts. I think Chris Stevens did just as good of a job on the GT500 as Kemal did with the GT350. Some day down the road Ford will transition to another look and I'll struggle with it when that time comes. In the meantime, I love seeing what Stevens had in his head come to fruition.

Sure its functional and beautiful. Its also a mid engine supercar that starts at 350,000$. Not a front engine Mustang that starts well under 100K. Its isn't exactly apples to apples.

Ridiculous argument, as it was simply to show that it's possible to make a car functional and still keep it looking attractive. But, if you really want Front Engine cars around $100k that are still beautiful and functional...

Which one is "beautiful", other than the GT350?

I like the gt500 base and track pack version and love the gt350/R.

My thoughts on the 500 are it has a 50 year old woman’s body and a botched up looking plastic surgery nightmare face.

What I mean is, the front end view are too modern for the side and rear view of the car.
To much was changed on just the front end.

I like it a lot but still not in love with it. Yet.

Lmao
