Is there any difference when shifting the center consul into S ( below drive @ bottom ) position than using the toggle switch to put it in sport mode other than the obvious change of the display on the dash ?
Just curious if anyone has tested that and are shift points and all different.

I can tell this shifting and throttle response in s mode is not as aggressive as sport plus. I used to drive in sport plus all the time until i started running in s mode and I like it better for daily driving

That keeps the other parameters such as exhaust, steering and magnaride the same.

It also activates full time and real manual mode on the shifter paddles.

I've also observed it tends to downshift much more aggressively when shifted to S. I the manual says to use it for downhill driving.

It’s kind of annoying when you toggle through the dash modes and you want to go back to normal it has to go through drag then ice/snow and then normal then back to my mode. It’s fine if you just put it in one mode and go but I like to leave mine in D and my mode for track exhaust and if I want more upshifting or leave at a light and have fun it’s much easier to just put the shifter down one notch then when you’re back to putting along with traffic just one notch back up on the shifter to D. Way easier

As mentioned the other thing is the dash mode to S+ will put the steering into Sport which is too stiff for my liking on the street. It probably does shift different though. I haven’t really compared

Yes, the shifting is much more aggressive in Sport+. You should use 'D' for city driving and if your grandma wants to drive it. On the highway you should use 'S' at minimum. Don't worry I'm pretty sure this is all in the handbook.

Im hoping when I add the Lund tune they can give me a hybrid S + D mode to replace the normal D mode.

The new D mode will have throttle response and acceleration shift strategy of S, but the shift pressure of D and without the rev matching downshifts of S.

Short of that, I think just mapping the throttle response of D more aggressively might achieve most of what I'm after.

Every time I point that out everyone jumps on my case about how wonderful it is and the most amazing design in automotive history and Ford can do no wrong, lol.

It is wonderful. It is safety through design. Ford doesn’t allow the mode to change unless it is very deliberate. First, the switch must be pushed up just to turn the toggle on. Subsequent up-toggles will change the mode and then the switch will turn off automatically after a short period of inactivity. Allowing for down-toggle increases risk of accidental operation, for example, if the passenger reaches for something in the tray and accidentally bumps the switch.

Just to confirm if you’re on S+ on the dash it will shift automatically if you are using the paddles and the gear selector is in D?

Putting the stick in "S" simply puts the car into manual shift mode near as I can tell - I haven't noticed any other differences other than that. You can still toggle the modes while in S. I think of the "S" as short for "standard" (i.e., manual) mode, I don't think it changes the suspension or steering compared to simply having it in D if you don't change the drive mode with the toggle.

Way off man. It holds every gear upshifting in S and doesn’t skip. Shifts much quicker and also hits every gear on the downshifts when coming to a stop. Also HUGE differences when on throttle input on when it upshifts. In D you have to really almost floor it in order to get it to grab a higher gear. It holds the gears MUCH longer too. Ur post is bad info in my opinion

S shift gives me sporty or mountain/hill use automatic, as long as I do not touch the paddles. S+ is sporty, but if I shift to S while in S+ it becomes a more aggressive shifting A10 vs S+ and D.

Who are you talking to, me? Putting the shifter into S mode doesn't change the drive modes, it puts it in manual mode. And yes, even with the shifter in S it will downshift automatically as you slow down to a stop. Note that I am talking about the shifter, not the toggle modes.
