And that’s not for the 18-19 model? Because that’s also saying to increase to 10 quarts as well???
Yes they do have some misprints. 15-17 is 8 quarts and 18-19 is 10 quarts. Those instructions were from a 15-17 gen 2/3/4 install.

That’s my main concern as well here in Boston. What do you run now 5w-30?

I’m running 5w50 per the instructions I got with my kit. My car is not driven in the winter but prior to the Whipple I would start it a few times throughout the winter. I’ve decided I won’t this year until it’s in the 50’s

Yea that’s def an issue for me, although it’s not my daily or anything I do drive it year round about once a week. Maybe I should stick to 5w-30 since many have used it prior to this change and it seems safe for very cold weather.

For those interested, I finally got a call back from whipple and chatted with one of the s550 experts. 5w-50 was recommended as in there testing, 5w-30 began to break down faster at higher temps and revs and pushing the car to its limits. That being said, 5w-50 is the better oil for the application with a big asterisk!!! If you live in cold places like I do (Boston) 5w-50 should not be used below freezing temps. All there testing was done in Cali which is why this never occurred to them. They recommended to stick with the same oil (so motorcradt, or Mobil or whatever your preference) and to run 30 in the winter and around the May timeframe when your consistenly above 30-40 degrees, switch to the 50. Took a lot of time to get the right answer but happy to finally have clear direction.

@Bbarfoot14 I'm also from the Boston area! Are you doing the Whipple install yourself?

That would be cool! I'm up at New England Dragway quite often during the summer. You planning on heading over there this summer?

The instruction kit I received with my GEN1 kit for my '17 advises 5W50 as well. Being an OEM tech I too am a bit leary about straying away from the 5W20, however it seems to me with as much R+D as Whipple puts into these kits, if they are recommending 5W50 that's what I will go with. Perhaps @Whipple SC can advise?

Damn I didn’t even know they still sold gen 1 kits. You sure it’s not a gen 2 supercharger?

Oh jeez, my mistake! I meant Stage 1 not GEN1. It's a GEN 3 2.9L blower.

No worries I have the same kit. When I spoke with the rep he said it really does come down to temp. So for me, I’m gunna run 5w-30 just because of how cold it gets. I’ve actually heard a few different recommendations from whipples staff so any additional clarity would be great.
