So last Friday I was at a birthday party at a local casino. They have their own parking garage. I parked the Stang at the last spot and had my brother park next to me. Somehow someone still managed to hit my car and leave the scene without telling anyone or leaving a note. I filed a police report and also notified the casino security.

It turns out that the casino is not allowed to look at the footage or help me out. They say the police need to come and ask for the footage.

The local police are saying that the casino needs to provide them with the information. And back and forth we go.

I don't really care about the damage. I know it can be fixed. Im just really upset that i have to pay out of pocket for someones mistake. Now I'm stuck with having to pay the insurance deductible.

I am confident all this could have been avoided. I was looking at dashcams before the incident. Im kicking myself for not ordering it sooner.

Sucks man. Most dash cams require the car to be on to catch something like that. Only a few models will actually record something on impact and even those aren't all that great or delayed.

Good luck man

The Lukas LK-7200 I use keeps the sensor active with a 10-second memory buffer. If something triggers the recording alerts that can be set (motion in the field of view or sensing an impact), it will write the buffer to the SD card and record the next 20 seconds as well, giving you a 30 second clip showing the time immediately before and after the trigger. The camera needs to be wired to an always-on power location for this to work, but you can set a battery voltage at which it will turn itself off to keep from running the car dead over an extended period.

That’s no touch and feel parking mistake. That looks deliberate! I totally humiliated a guy back in the day with my Fox-body 5. 0. He followed me to Home Depot and rammed a dolly used for moving sheet rock panels into the side of my car. So shit like that does happen and is deliberate.

How would a dash cam be able to capture damage from the side like that? I mean, obviously it would it the perp had pulled in towards the car and parked next to it - but suppose the perp comes in from a view not captured, like beyond the lens view?

It almost looks like it was done on purpose, you know - jealous people - nice car, oh let me damage it because owner thinks it’s safe since it’s parked far away....

Do most dash cams have fish eye views?

Im sorry brother.

Same thing happened to me on my BMW. Had it for a month and some a$$hole hit it and left
leaving an 11k damage to a brand new car. Insurance paid but I had to pay deductible and
be out of my new car for almost 3 months 'till it was finished. No respect these days.

You may want to just cut the fenders and go for a widebody look if it is something you are in to ;)

Some states have laws about deductibles for when a vehicle is hit when parked. Look into that in your state.

In Virginia it's something like a $200 max deductible if the car was parked, regardless of what your deductible actually is. Of course the claims folks might forget to tell you that.

The real issue here is that doesn't look like a car caused that. It almost looks like someone took a pry-bar or crowbar to it. Maybe even tin snips. It looks cut by hand.

While dash cams can have a wide angle sensor, I don't think a dash cam would have helped you here. It may have caught the person walking up to your car, but it wouldn't have caught the person actually committing the act.

Sorry it happened like this OP. For one, people get jealous of nice things that they can't have. For two, nobody owns up to what they do anymore. Somebody would rather risk bigger trouble in the form of a hit and run than to leave a note with contact information saying sorry. But like I said earlier, no car did this, so I wouldn't expect a note or apology either.

Yeah, that looks vandalized.

Think about whom you've pissed off.

Its defiantly a shame. This is actually the first time anything like this has happened to me. I do believe it was as well. But i haven't had anyone come to mind on who could have done this. Or i haven't pissed anyone off that I know of.

Yeah the damage is definitely strange for sure. I was trying to figure out it could have happened. What makes it frustrating that there is a security camera within 20ft from where my vehicle was parked. Makes me more angry that the person who did this will get away with it.

I do agree as well, lots of haters out there.

It was definitely hit by a car or another object... look at the scratch above the headlight and bumper

I been thinking about that for sure. I would be so nice to get a hold of the footage of the accident.

It seem to happen to sport cars or luxury cars way to often. And we were going to take my wife's car that day. But i hadn't driven my car 2 week and waned to drive it. Now i will be out my car for a few days or so.

11k worth of damage, wow thats insane.

Lol that one way to look at it. Wide Body Stangs sure are sweet looking.

Im still doing for research on dashcams. They do have some 180 degree view lenses. But yes you will have blind spots. Especially because the camera is always interior mounted.
