They're making a 4 door mustang to compete with the Audi A7 and Panamera.
It will also be a turbo V8.
Sorry, but with that grille, that's certainly an electric car. We'd be lucky if it has an N/A 4 banger

Like the Panamera I'm sure there is going to be multiple options on what motor is in it.
I got this information from the guy that took the pic of the 2019 GT500

Look at the roofline and how tall it is. Don't think "SUV" like an explorer, think "Crossover", like the BMW GT (a "6 series inspired crossover")
BMW.jpg
I kinda see it, but at the same time, it could just be a lower hood line. I'm not too familiar with how electric motors are working or how tall they are, but I do know that the Tesla's have a lot of their weight down low. Lower hood with current height would give a similar effect from the front.

Based on very shitty Paint calculations (all I got right now), that front pony is 10% of the height and 12% of the width.

On the 2015-17, the front pony is ~9% of the height and 12% of the width.

So unless they made the pony massive, it looks about the same.

Used this shot of the 15-17 to compare.

The other part I wonder then if they're going to do a "proper" 4 door Mustang is if that will free them to make the 2 door a 2 seater coupe instead of 2+2 and then anyone that needs the 4 seats can buy the 4 door. Might upset some people, but I think they could do a lot better on the performance side of things by focusing on it and reducing size/weight like that.

Weird. It would be like Porsche calling the Panarama a 4-door 911.

That might be true if it was a 48V Mild Hybrid, but Ford has already said that it will not be that. If you use the Fusion Hybrid as an example, that only has a 1.4kWh battery. Very small compared to the 7.6 kWh battery in the plug-in Fusion Energi or the 18.1 kWh battery in a Chevrolet Volt. But it is still MUCH larger than a car battery. This is the Fusion 1.4kWh battery.

And here's how it is packaged in the car.

Expect a similar sized battery for a Mustang hybrid.

Perhaps not a battery at all, but a capacitor like used in F1 and other motorsports.

Nope. Guarantee that. I’d bet my pink slip on it. Full disclosure....I consult independently and professionally on the topics of hybrids and electric vehicles and I also work for an automotive forecasting company. No volume manufacturer is looking at ultra caps for HEVs or BEVs.

I have had my wrist twisted to come out of retirement. For Hydrogen cell conversion. For power and generation.
Bloody hell, should I go for it (my instruments are really good) or just stagnate in happy retirement. In a way I wish there was a war on.
Do it! You might have fun at it. Military and power generation are probably the two best applications for hydrogen fuel cell. I “came out of retirement” for the automotive forecasting job. Having a blast!

Reduce size and weight, have 4 doors. Why don't the just build a BMW 3 series? We'll see how that works out for Ford trying to be a European sports car. The niche and attraction of the Mustang is its uniqueness, not another small light family saloon.

Huh? I said make a proper small and light one that goes to being a true 2 seater then have the 4 door be a bit bigger than the current car. If the Mustang is what sells, derivative vehicles are to be expected to make the most off of that investment since they've now cancelled everything else.

Some of what I am reading in this thread just doesn't make sense, regarding timelines and speaks more of people mixing up stuff or not connecting the dots regarding U725 and S650.

Up until early 2016, S650 was not due until MY 2022 in 2021. This was always intended by product planners and Mulally before he stepped down. A 7-year lifecycle for all models developed under "One Ford", but under Fields some things did change and now again under Hackett.

Under Fields, the S650 was pushed forward to December 2020 SOP, for early 2021 launch as a MY 2021 car on what was "D6R".

Under Hackett, it was pushed back again to MY 2022 in calendar year 2021 and allegedly reworked. At this point, the car has been designed. As someone said in this thread, the first mules will be seen in the coming months during 2019.

The first S650 prototypes based on the final design will be seen more than a year from now and pre-production is probably way out in terms of 24 months.

Bear in mind, S550 mules using S197s started being built in the 2nd quarter of 2012, a few months after the final S550 design decision was made in Janaury 2012.

In November 2012 the pre-locked-in S550 front fascia was first caught on a S197. The exterior design freeze was supposed to happen in June 2012 alongside the interior design freeze, but that didn't happen until the beginning of December 2012.

In May 2013, the first prototypes were built and of course, first spied in public in early June 2013 and spy shots were published on June 8, 2013 alongside the aluminum F-series.

Pre-production began in the spring of 2014, following engineering sign-off in early 2014 and reveal on December 5, 2013.

For this car, the lead time (time to market on each stage) just might be longer.

For that matter the U725 on "next T6", was scheduled for July 2020 Job #1 as a 2021 model, meaning late August or September 2020 intro, so that is why you haven't seen it yet whether in Australia or North America.

It was NEVER a 2020 model, but people have this tendency to assume "2020" means 2020 model year and not release date in 2020, meaning 2021 model.

I don't even know if Ford Design has built a fiberglass 1:1 of the U725 yet, so you will not see prototypes, until at least 5-6 months after design freeze. I pretty much have those dates at Ford, including the P702 F-series for MY 2021.

People were just lucky with the S550, being spied in June 2013, exactly 6 months after "the exterior freeze" in December 2012. Then it getting revealed exactly 1 year after design freeze.

Ditto for the 2012 Focus (Q1 2009 design freeze vs January 2010 reveal), 2013 Fusion (Dec 2010 vs Jan 2012), 2017 Raptor (mid-2014 vs Jan 2015) and Ford GT (mid-2014 vs Jan 2015) with early reveals.

The Bronco will not be seen until winter testing at earliest or maybe even hot weather testing in Summer 2019. Neither will be seen in 2018 unless revealed early.

Remember these? Of course you do... (please note....these are NOT from Ford, but are the work of a design student)

Well, I spotted a video on Facebook last night that gives a quick glimpse of the left-most model

Credit was given as @anhee0554 - so I did a bit more Googling and came up with this image:
