Yesterday I had the day off work to install some mods, after the issues with my Jack (not fitting under my car) + not wanting to crawl around my garage floor - I decided it'd be best to let a pro fit my stuff to the car, so I got in contact with Alan at Pumabuild (Famously the chap with BA51ARD number plate).

He installed my Downpipe and Waste gate actuator with relative ease (the WGA obviously requires configuring and precise movements otherwise it'll be wrong). The downpipe was the cobb 3" high flow catted downpipe, and the waste gate actuator is the turbosmart one.

The Downpipe was installed and rubbed like mad to the steering column, it vibrated constantly and was awful to drive. This is because it's not technically for a RHD car, it was a worry it'd rub, however, it really rubbed, also with the engine rotating towards that side of the car under load, it was just a noisy clunky bastard...

Now in most instances I'd have just ripped the downpipe off, however Alan informed me of a company in Walsall - MIJ performance, who are exhaust fabrication specialists and one of the only ones local who weld and use stainless steel (And to my surprise, the same steel used on the cobb!). They were quickly called up and slotted me in for half 2, however I didnt' turn up until 3 as driving the car was a nightmare and I didn't got over 30mph because it was that bad.

MIJ fitted me in, got the car up, and explained what needed to be done, whilst also pointing out another issue with the pipe rubbing on a bolt head. The pipes were cut, rewelded and a smooth bend added and shifted over about 13mm. The hangar was rewelded on in a different position and welded to the frame (the downpipe can still be removed by taking off the secondary hangars bolts).

I'll post pictures later, but there's some already on Mustangs Unleashed FB group which you can see the work on MIJ and Alan's installs.

I do need to go back to Alan over the weekend to pickup my stock parts whilst im there... but until then it's time to log this tune for adam (@Tune+) and get this beast moving!

The downpipe hasn't increased any drone in the cabin, except when downshifting it sounds ferocious, but that's expected really, when cruising there is no additional noise whatsoever, however on cold start the car is very loud, but also retains the quality of noise that the magnaflow has and that I fell in love with. I do need to "Properly" hear the exhaust outside of the car, revving etc, but from what I heard of it moving it sounds glorious.

Now in short, would I recommend the Cobb Catted downpipe? Yes... Just for the European brothers with a lefty, to the right hookers, I'd recommend it, if you're willing to get it modified to fit the car as the sound is great, especially vs every other downpipe on the market.

The improvements in the car speak for themselves on a bum on seat feel, it feels now like it pulls through the RPM range like a GT, but punches power like an EB, which has got me excited for what the Tune will unleash on this car.

If you're at Nemesis, please come and pass honest opinions on the sound, or, if i'm feeling up for it, rev my car so I can hear it properly....

In other news, I picked up some black metal valve caps with Mustang Pony Emblems on them off wish for next to nothing, they arrived and have been put on.

Next plans for the car are get forscan, fix double honk, add lock at 10mph (and unlock below 10), fix hyperblink, and some other gimmicks software related.

Modification wise, I may have just finished with the car, until someone comes along wanting to give/sponsor me a big turbo and build my engine block :p!

Would it not be better for RHD owners to have a down pipe custom made? saves having to look for someone who wants to mess around with modifying one.

Also careful with your valve caps mate. Metal ones tend to seize on the valves and will cause you issues. Loosen them ever couple of weeks to make sure they don’t seize. Ask me how I know

Put a little Vaseline on the valve cap threads. They have a habit of seizing on solid (different metals). ( - Jimboy2 beat me to it!)

P.S. you've gone quiet about insurance recently ;)

No need to mention insurance, they're fine with it if you must know, I think I mentioned something somewhere to someone - my insurance is the same, I'm just covered differently now, but covers me for everything I use the car for etc.

I've got copper grease on the valve caps, as per centurions advise... So they "should" be okay. But we'll see...
Jimboy2 possibly better to do that, however then you're stuck paying whatever extortionate price someone wants for a CAT (esp a sports cat), chap came in whilst they were working on my exhaust and ford had quoted him for his V6 mondeo was ÂŁ800 and ÂŁ1000 respectively (as it has 2 cats, one on the mani, and one downstream), very expensive for what it was/is, however very overpriced. Found some online whilst we waited for a few hundered, but still woul have needed fabricating etc.
Also issue with a custom pipe is you don't know how it's going to fit, sound, etc. So it's a bit half and half.

Miltek have a working downpipe for the EBM, however, it does sound a bit raspy from what I've heard... and that's a massive issue for the EBM is swapping on a DP and turning it into a raspy fart box, which the Cobb is honestly the only one I could find (That was also legally catted) that would do that.. But in short, yes it's an option for anyone who wants to... I think downpipes for a RHD maybe few and far between.

I know JWR sell the EBM cobb downpipe, I can't remember what they run on their car whether it's catted or not, but if it's catted Jason, it won't fit a RHD without modifying it :)

Scottish cost-saving tip... to avoid having to shell out on a low profile jack just roll your car into blocks then jack as normal ;)

English cost saving tip, currently in garage making blocks of wood to fit to roll onto lol!

Okay here's the downpipe as promised, and WGA and my valve caps.

Downpipe before, cat rubbing against the steering column

Cat and flex pipe after modding to fit:

Welded new bend

Moved the hangar over majorly, welded to the mount point, as i didn't want to fuck the oem fitment too much lol.

Cat and steering column, a lot of space now (the cat sits above and about 13mm to the LEFT OF THE STEERING COL NOW)

Wastegate installed

Valve caps

Thanks again Pumabuild MustangMustHaves and MIJ performance!

Steve let me know if you need help with FORScan. I 've done all these changes, plus several more, a while ago. For example it might be a good idea to deactivate the Active Noise Cancellation through FORSCan, as it will quiet down drone in the cabin due to exhaust and downpipe.
