I've been thinking about putting black 5.0 fender emblems and a GT emblem on my rear deck lid in place of the chrome. I have a black Mustang, however I have the 20in Foundry wheels which are chrome/charcoal colored. How do you guys think the emblems would look on the car even though it's not totally blacked out. Also, I didn't realize how expensive they are, $120 just for the 2 5.0 and 1 GT emblem.

Just mask it off and spray the chrome with black plasti dip. It lasts a long time, is easily removable, and if you really like the look you can order the real ones. Or you can just remove and reapply the plasti dip every so often. I've considered doing this maybe next year to make a racing stripe.

Like, literally, if you're not familiar with plasti dip..the stuff will peel right off if you don't like it. It's pretty amazing stuff and perfect for avoiding modification regret.

aside - do a lot of research on using plasti-dip for a racing stripe. it doesn't mask off well from my personal experience. It works great for emblems or full panels. When you peel the tape, the edge is jagged. Just my 2 cents.

+1 on using plasti-dip to see if you like it, OP. I have 2 cans in my garage waiting to go onto my pony, GT, and 5.0 emblems.

A fully blacked-out car looks amazing, imo.

Thank's guys. Just saved me $120, minus he cost of Plastic-dip. Now I can buy WeatherTech mats for the winter with the money I saved. :)

I think black paint is actually a color that pairs well with chrome emblems and those wheels. I bought replacement matte black emblems for my car but it is guard and already had matte gunmetal wheels

My brother was just saying that, especially since the only chrome on the car is the 4 emblems, so there isn't a ton of chrome. So now i'm on the fence, but I guess I can do a quick comparison with the plasti-dip and if I don't like it, peel it right off.

Ah. Thanks. I wouldn't have done it without research for sure, and probably wouldn't have done it myself anyway. I don't do well with symmetry and straight lines. I guess there are templates out there though.

For stripes and big applications, you have to remove the masking/tape while it is still wet.
